Transportation to and fro... What am I missing?

Why is it so difficult to find one place to tell you how to get everywhere FROM everywhere? Does anyone have a site or suggestion? I am trying to plan and the transportation aspect is lacking in my plans and I feel it's going to end up making me have to change some other things too.

Thanks so much!

Will you be driving a car on-property or taking Disney transportation?

There is a Transportation Forum (HERE) on the DISboards.

Hi! Thanks for the response and the link. I will not be driving. Reliant solely on disney transportation. I wish we could just enter where we want to go and it would spit out a map!!

If you take Disney Transportation, you don't need a map.

Just make a list of your destinations and post it.
We can tell you how to get there.

OP, try this link. Its pretty awesome! It gives you different route options and even tells you how long it'll take!

The reason that I did not suggest that link is that it is notoriously so inaccurate.

Ive never had trouble with it? Mind you, its been a while since i've used it. but at least it tells you HOW to get to a place, even thou the time might not be accurate. Also, naturally they cant be accurate with their times because of several factors such as traffic etc. Its just like you telling me how to get to MK from DTD.....you'd estimate, just like the website does.

I've heard that a lot and trust the veterans, but I found it worked for me - didn't find any inaccuracies - I must have been lucky. Maybe a planner could use it as a starting point and then verify by asking on the transportation forum. . .

I'm with both of these posters.
I don't rely on it for times since they are impossible to predict for every given situation but for the different ways to get from point A to point B I think it's very good. Best resource there is, that I know of.

Hmmm, not sure if I would trust the info. I put in from DHS to Fort Wilderness. It gave three options, the second where a car magically appears at the Dolphin. But the 'best' method of just taking the FW bus from DHS was not provided.

Starting from Disney Hollywood Studios:

Bus to Magic Kingdom® Park
Transfer to Boat to Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground
Estimated Time: 37 minutes
0 0
Boat to Walt Disney World® Dolphin Hotel
Transfer to Car to Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground
Estimated Time: 37 minutes

Bus to Disney's Wilderness Lodge

Estimated Time: 31 minutes

Take bus from MK then boat to FW

I've recommended against that site and app for a few years now (and all the pros on the Transportation board do as well). That example above certainly clinches it for me, and looks like things I had found in the past. That particular advice above would be a total mess in all 3 cases.

Theme park to resort is easy - take bus with resort name on front.
Theme park to theme park - do the same.

If you need to get to Downtown Disney you need to go from a resort, there are no DTD buses from theme parks. So take a bus to closest resort and then change to a DTD bus.

What else do you need to know?

Maybe FW to DHS wasn’t listed because they give you the alternative options other than the most obvious one? Do you really need an app to tell you to take the bus from DHS to FW?? Furthermore, it lists all options possible. Which is why the car “magically” appears there I guess? That route is an odd one thou. Cause i guess someone would just take the car from DHS to FW.

The app has also suggested options that did not exist at all for various trips. At best, it often suggests overly complicated routes involving transfers that aren't necessary.

then thats a dumb app to a noob not everything is obvious

Generally true, but there are some exceptions missing, such as MK to Epcot, Epcot-IG to DHS, resort boat loops, etc.

I will reiterate that the best WDW transportation resource is the DIS Transportation Board. Specifically the Point A to Point B Sticky.

I totally agree. It is dangerously inaccurate.
It truly lists options that don't even exist. It would be very misleading for a new comer. A PP said it is the best available. Maybe, but it is not good.
GoofyinToronto, I am not sure why you feel you need to argue that.

Transportation is fairly straightforward. If you are staying at a value or moderate, you will rely on a bus to take you to all the parks, waterparks, and DTD. They are all labeled as they pull up to the bus depot. If you need to get to another resort, you'll want to get on a park bus or DTD bus and then head to that resort's bus stop when you get to the park or DTD.

Boats and the monorail are alternative transportations at select locations and varies depending on where you are and where you're staying.

Rule of thumb for us is to allow 45-60 minutes to get to a park from my resort, and to allow 60-75 minutes to get to another resort when I have to tranfer buses.

The thing is, it's straightforward to someone who's experienced with using it. For someone new, it can feel like a game of Bamboozled (sorry for those not familiar with this "Friends" reference).

That's why I highly recommend the Transportation Board/Sticky.

I don't know enough to know if this is accurate, but this link takes you to a very cool subway style map of disney transport options. I find the format very understandable.

While resort to park transportation is fairly obvious, that doesn't help me when I'm trying to decide whether we want to hit AK in the morning and then go directly to blizzard beach or swing back through our resort. And the forums aren't all that useful if I'm trying to make last minute changes in plans while at WDW.

Perhaps the experts can say whether the map is accurate. It looked to me like the creator was taking comments so if there are inaccuracies, maybe suggestions could be made for improvement.
