Transportation Suggestions

First time to Disney World. Staying at Summer Bay Resort for 1 week. 2 adults/no kids. Middle of September.

Anyone have any cost saving suggestions they would like to share regarding getting to and from the parks? Will this be feasible without a rental car? Anything that we need to keep in mind so we don't get stranded?

I was so excited about this vacation and now it is starting to get so overwhelming

If you are staying off-site, I would recommend a rental car. It'll probably end up being the same price as a towncar to/from the resort, with a taxi here and there. I would not recommend using any off-site shuttle service to/from the parks.

This resort is supposed to be less that 6 miles from the park. I thought that the bus might be an option to and from the park.

My company has started to lay off people at work and I had thought about postponing the trip but the reservations could not be changed so now we are trying to cut some expenses.

Anyone found any good rates? September is supposed to be the slow time so maybe someone has seen some specials..... anyone?

There are some off-site shuttle companies that are decent. However, because it's such a cutthroat business, the majority of the shuttle operators run old, filthy, disgusting, beat up death traps that couldn't pass a DOT inspection without $50 taped to the licence plate. There's one company in particular that runs buses with no A/C, bald tires, missing body panels, and not a single operational tail light. And that's just for starters. Just be careful of who your resort charters out to...
