Do we have any alumni or current DCP'ers who have been in the Transportation Role at WDW? If so can you give us some insight into training, positions, etc

I was accepted for this upcoming one. I can tell you that monorail is no longer an option. Beyond that I've seen bus greeter and sassagoula/friendships

I am a current transportation CP. I work for the Sassagoula River Cruises, and have also worked for MK watercraft at the start of my program. There are 2 roles for transportation, Sassagoula and Buses. Monorails has never been apart of the college program (this is from my managers; the accident was just a college kid). Now, working for buses, you are a greeter most likely at Port Orleans resort or another busy resort. And for Sassagoula, you drive the boats at DTD which has routes around the lake, to Port Orleans, and 2 DVC resorts. When I started my program, they had just stopped training CP's to drive boats at MK because too many CP's were crashing the boats. So in trade off to not driving over there, we got morning hour deckhand shifts (6-2:30 pm) which was fantastic. In June they made the switch that all CP's would go to Sassagoula, and so I was the third kid to be moved over to Sassy, and the 5th CP in history to drive there. Driving at the Sassagoula is a lot of fun but it is a lot of work. I felt overwhelm a little bit (I have been boating my entire life) but after a week or two it all sinks in.

I do not know about bus greeters, I'm not sure if they are having them anymore. My friend in my engineering class was a bus greeter and we both had the same hours of work (6-2:30 pm). I did extend and ended up staying a Sassagoula my entire second program. Over at Sassagoula, the earliest you'll be scheduled to work on a weekly basis is 4:30 pm, and you'll be out by 12:30 am. which isn't bad compared to the MK kids getting out a 2 3 and 4. Being a boat driver is a job to brag about, so love it, live it, and learn from it. A lot of the guys there are retired and just work there for the love it, others are grumpy. The managers are all nice so you won;t have any problems.

Friendship boats are an attraction at Epcot, so you will not be getting those.

Anyways if you have any questions, feel free to ask. I know that Sass is getting 3 girls from this upcoming CP, so I know those names.

Friendship boats are part of cp transportation now. I have a friend who did it during this past program. It is considered transportation in cp and attractions to a regular cm. I had spoken to someone on my last trip named Robert who was a cp on friendship. I believe CPs cannot drive within Epcot though. Just the route between the parks. There is also someone on here who was on friendship

Thank you for the response. I'm hoping to work the SASS boats when I get down there in a few weeks. Like you I have boating experience and know just like any rig it'll take a bit to get use to but after that it's easy as pie. Even if I don't get the boats I'm just happy to be part of the program and will enjoy it for all that it is worth. Where else in the world can you work for one of America's leading companies and be able to enjoy so many benefits for free. Thank you again for the reply and if I have anymore questions I'll be sure to let you know.

This is great news to hear! I've been looking for threads on the transportation role. Just got excepted into it the 2014 fall advantage and was offered the transportation role. I had that role as my top choice since I attended a magnet school in high school that focus around marine biology and maritime trades so I actually spent a lot of my time in high school driving boats. I mentioned this in my phone interview so I can only assume this is why I was offered the transportation role. I was super confused on what jobs fall under this role until I saw this post. Hoping I'll get to work at Sassagoula!
