Transportation Resort to Resort

I thought there were buses that ran between the resorts. I'll be staying at Dolphin, but LOVE Kona. I was hoping to get dinner at Kona first night, but we won't arrive until 9pm.

How would I get from Dolphin to Poly? I wasn't going to be renting a car, but if it's too difficult and long to get to Poly a couple of times, I might look into renting. We're only there 4 days, so I don't want to waste a ton of time on transfers.

Any suggestions?

you have to go to a hub (either of the 4 parks or DTD) and then transfer to another bus. So to get to the Poly, you'd have to go to DHS and get on the Poly bus or go to MK and take the monorail. If your time is short and you're going to make the trip to the Poly from your resort more than once, a rental car might be the way to go. Disney transportation is not efficient resort to resort.

This question came up when I took two traveling companions this year for the first time - they also commented they didn't understand why you couldn't go resort to resort.

One could only imagine the amount of buses that would have to run to make that happen. Once they got the hang of it, it made more sense to them. Plus I had things well planned out. We were also very close to DTD and used their buses to other resorts quite often. In past years, I didn't have too much faith in the DTD system, but I was pleasantly surprised this year. They seemed to have at least two CM's there all the time, keeping things moving and informing the dispatcher where they were lacking in buses. It worked quite well.

If you dont want to mess with a rental or WDW buses, you also can take a cab for quicker transportation..

Again, the best thing for you is going to be a cab. It will cost you though..that is not a short junket. You already know that you won't be there in time for the Electric Water Parade, and you will probably miss Wishes as well. You may be better served by just grabbing a bite to eat at Picabu (at the Dolphin) and watching the higher up fireworks of IllumiNations that night.
That's a fair amount of running around, right after you arrive, and later at night. If it were me, I would eat at my resort and get to bed early.
If you head to Kona, you won't get there until close to 10, then it will be really late by the time you get back to the Dolphin. Not a good way to start your 4 day stay.

Thank you, you all finally knocked some sense into me. It will be a crazy day as we all have a full day of school, then rush to get to the airport, so we will definitely be wiped out. I'm going to check out Picabu right now as I've never even heard of it. If my family knew what I was going to be putting them through, I'm sure they'd be thank you right now also.

Just a suggestion once you arrive - if you want to go resort to resort we found the easiest way was to get on the first theme park bus that comes no matter where then get on the resort bus from there. Also we took a cab from Boardwalk to kona & it was about $15.00 - maybe you could go for breakfast later in your stay.

also, keep in mind that if you have to go to DTD at night after eating at Kona, the DTD bus stops are absolutely nuts at that time of night. You could be stuck at DTD for quite a long time. I try to avoid transferring at DTD at night, but sometimes you have no option if all of the parks are closed.

Haven't been there during that time but after the parks are closed there is no shortage of buses.

So there should be extra service to handle Downtown Disney crowds just like at the parks at closing time.
