Just got back from a Christmas week trip to Orlando (left on the 23rd and returned on the 28th). Here's a quick rundown of our experiences with ATA and Happy Limo:
We fly ATA a lot, and usually they're pretty good about being on time. On this trip, the weather was against us. They held our flight for some late connecting passengers, but by the time they got us de-iced, there was just enough snow to cause the airport to close for runway clearing. By the time it was cleared, we had to be de-iced again. We ended up leaving a couple hours late, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.
We knew it would be a very full flight, and we wanted to be sure to have space for our carry-ons, as we weren't checking any luggage. We used online check-in to select the row 36 exit rows, which meant being in the first boarding wave and also having lots of extra legroom. Even though we were in the back, the time spent waiting to get off the plane was much shorter than waiting for luggage if they'd checked one of our bags due to lack of overhead bin room.
Our flight was due in at midnight, so it didn't arrive till 2 a.m. Our poor Happy Limo driver was there in the baggage area waiting for us. They had sent a lovely black Excursion, and it even had tv screens in the seat backs, but I was too sleepy to enjoy it.
On the way home, we were ready a little early and our driver arrived early so we got a head start to the airport. The flight was very full again, but this time it was on time. I thought the security lines at MCO might be really bad (Midway had been surprisingly uncrowded on the way out), but they were minimal. We had time to shop at Barnes and Noble before our flight.
We had quite a bit of turbulence, but other than that the flight was pretty uneventful (just the way I like 'em). Overall, a good transportation experience all the way around!
We return to MCO this week...ATA again, and Thrifty car rental, so I'll post how that goes.
