Which airport do you fly into when exclusively going to DL? Can you tell me about transportation options from the airport to DL area? Thinking of possible stay at good neighbor hotel for a short visit. Any opinions or $ info appreciated.

My preferred airports are Orange County (SNA) and Long Beach (LGB). Both are very close to DLR (15-17 miles). I prefer to take a cab (approx. $35). There are also super shuttles and the Disney Magical Express Bus provides service to/from SNA.

Thanks for the quick response Dangermouse! Will take this into consideration. I didn't know there was a Magical Express at DL too (as at DW).

I don't think it's the same as at WDW.

The Disneyland Express is advertised as a Greyline company, I have found no links between it and the Disneyland website. Here's the link.

To DangerMouse, I've heard that you get a good fare TO Disneyland, but getting back to the airport is never as good a rate. The explanation I've heard is that it's a flat-rate TO the resort, but metered on the way back? How have you gotten around this?

Do you just hail a cab at SNA? And how do you get the cab to your hotel at the end? What cab company?

I'm sure the OP wants to know these things, too. AT least I hope ya do! :rolleyes1

You're absolutely right. I have ran into snags trying to get a good price back to the airport. I usually have to do some heavy negotiating trying to get a good flat rate back. The most I have paid for my return trip was $40 including tip.

At SNA you go to a cab stand where they have taxi's waiting. I always confirm with the cab manager (the person directing the cabs at the stand) what the rate is. On the way back, I was coming from a resort hotel and they have cabs waiting. I asked the valet to help me find a cab that would work with me on a flat rate instead of charging by meter.

Also, my mistake for calling it the "magical express" bus. I know it's called the Disneyland Express. Been spending too much time researching WDW!!

Thank you! I'm starting to think that a cab will be better for us than the D.E. bus...

Last time we flew to Orange County, we had an offer of transportation with our package that was about $20.00 each and worked fine to a good neighborhood hotel. Good luck!

We always fly into orange county and take a cab it's a little more but I love that it's a straight fast shot right to the hotel.

AZGAL81 makes a good point. When we did use a shuttle, it did stop at several other places and I could not help but think we could have been in the park instead of seeing several hotel entrances.

Does anyone fly into LAX? SW air had an awesome ding rate yesterday for LAX. I just don't know California to know whether this would be a nightmare. I guess that would necessitate a car rental then. How much of a drive is it from airport to Disney?

We don't typically because its not the quickest or most economical for us. But, many people do fly in and out of there. The Disney express bus and super shuttle are both good options for transportation from there.

We always fly into SNA. It is a smaller airport than LAX and it is closer, so it's less of a :headache: for us. I hear you can get better prices sometime flying into LAX vs. SNA, but to us the trouble of getting from LA to DL would not be worth any $ we would save. It is a nice airport and the rental cars are right there, no shuttling to some other place to pick up your car. Sorry I can't help with the transportation question as we always rent a car.

We are flying into LAX because it is a direct flight from the east coast and would have because of cost (we had enough airline miles, but it would have been the cheapest too).

From there you can take the Disneyland Express bus, Super Shuttle (or a few other shuttles, you can see what they are on the LAX website), or rent a car. We are renting a car for technically 8 days (actually 7, but later in the evening on the 7th day after the pickup time on the first day) for $115 WITH taxes. . . . it is a little more than taking a shuttle for the two of us (would have been 60) but this way we added to the trip and are able to go to the beach, and shopping. .. . :)

How long does it take to get from SNA to Disneyland? LOL - Last time we were coming off a cruise in Long Beach and had to take transportation *back* to the airport and then another shuttle to the hotel... took a very long time. I'm suddenly realizing it will be *much* faster for us this year.

4 days - I'm so excited I'm nearly wetting myself... ;-) DD hasn't been able to sleep for the last two nights - every night and every morning talking about Disneyland...
