My wife and I will be in Pasadena at the end of June for some meetings and a conference, before going to check in at the Grand Californian for 4 days. For our return trip to LAX we plan to use the Disneyland Express by Grayline. However, what are our options for getting from Pasadena to DLR? I guess we could take the airport shuttle from our hotel in Pasadena, I believe we are staying at the Hilton, to LAX and then catch the Disneyland Express, but want to know if there are better and perhaps cheaper options since we would have to pay for both the shuttle to LAX and then again for the Disneyland Express. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

The MTA Gold Line runs through Pasadena to Union Station in LA, from where you could take Amtrak or Metrolink to Anaheim station.

You might feel funny traveling with your luggage on public transit, but my DW and I did that in Vancouver, BC and quickly got over it. ;)

Plan B of course is to take a taxi to Union Station.

I would agree that this is your best option other than a towncar or cab service, which could run you upwards of $100 for 1 way. The other option is a rental car (such as Enterprise that has off airport offices and picks you up) that you could drop off once you get to Disneyland. Having the car would then allow you to stop off at a beach or some other destinations along the way. (After all, being in Pasadena, you are a hop away from Burbank, Glendale, and Griffith Park, which contains the Zoo, the World Famous Griffith Park Observatory (if you love space and telescopes), and the Hollywood attractions.

The Gold line is a "relatively new" route (since 2001) and was a much needed addition for commuters in that area. Once you get to Anaheim, you just take the ART from the train station to the hotel. Very simple, and if you've ever commuted in New York City or Chicago, it will be fine.

Thanks for this info. Does anyone know if this is still pretty accurate for Aug 2012? I have ridden the Gold Line to Union Station, but haven't done the other lines mentioned in these posts.

This is for getting to DLR from Pasadena, and what I posted above is still the way to go if you're ok with public transit. Metrolink is the commuter train, cheaper than Amtrak but less comfortable, and runs during commuter hours, which means it starts pretty early and that might work for you.

Amtrak doesn't run till a bit later in the day but has some night trains.

Thanks, @jlmarr! I'm definitely okay with public transit. Thanks for clarifying the difference between the Metrolink and Amtrak. I think I was overwhelmed before with all the train lines and different types of trains. This helped!
