So Jet Blue has some great fares right now from Portland into LGB ($79 each way!). We've always flown into LAX and used DL Express or rented a car.

What sort of transportation options are there for LGB-DL? It should be noted that we are a family of 5: 2 adults, 2 teens and a 3 year old that requires a car seat. If we could not take a car seat and avoid that extra bag fee, that would be great! We will also have a stroller so will require a fairly big car for all of us.

TIA!

You can rent a car, get a taxi, use SuperShuttle, or use another shuttle service.

We've done the three above, so those are the only three I can comment on.

I'm not a huge fan of SuperShuttle after our last experience with them, but they get the job done and you don't have to pay for a car for the entire time you're there. You can also use a mini-van type taxi. I think the price is pretty similar, but it's more difficult to get *back* to the airport with a taxi, SS is more reliable that way.

We always use a taxi from LGB. It's faster and tends to be cheaper than a shuttle when there are more than 2 people.

We would have paid $100 RT for the DL Express so I'm trying to stay around that price.

I've never used a taxi before! I am worried about finding a taxi to pick us up at the hotel.

Also, do they often have vans ready at LGB to take us to our hotel?

Hi, I'm flying out of PDX too to LGB. Unfortunately we paid $97 for our Jet Blue tickets. I was planning on taking a taxi as we have 6 people and I was told it is easy to get a mini van one in the taxi area, if there isn't one waiting then they will call for one for you. It's suppose to be $45 flat rate to the DLR plus tip. But metered on the way back, so I'm not sure how much. This is my first time flying with kids, you mentioned an extra baggage fee for car seat, I thought I read on their site that all car seats and strollers are free to check on. I'll have to go search their site again to make sure. If anyone knows please share.

I didn't think to check if car seats/strollers are free...that would be great! I've been so spoiled by SW Airlines free baggage policy!

Hmm...not sure about the metered thing. That might be significantly more expensive. I wish we could just rent a car from Alamo but they're wanting $74 just for 1 day! :(

There are taxi vans waiting at the airport. $45 flat rate. You can get a flat rate back if you call the taxi company ahead of time to reserve and tell them you want the flat rate. You will also have to tell your driver when he picks you up that you have arranged the flat rate. There should be no charge with the airline for your stroller and car seat. They will be checked at the gate and will be waiting for you when you step off the plane.

Walk across the street to the vans parked in front of the Budget Rentacar building. Look for one of the vans labeled ZIPPY SHUTTLE. I use them everytime. Their drivers are the best.

We always fly into LGB, the flat rate taxis are just across the street and easy to find. You can ask for a van taxi and it will be the same price. JetBlue checks (or gate checks whichever you prefer) car seats and strollers for free.

We just got back from DL last week and we took a taxi for the first time. Getting to the hotel was great, but took us forever to get a taxi to pick us up from the hotel. Just my two cents.

Do you know how much their shuttle is? I just requested a price quote, but wondering how the price compares to supershuttle. We're flying into Long Beach in a couple weeks, and their online price quote is $33 for the first person and $9 for each additional person each way, in case anyone else is wondering :)

The problem with Super Shuttle is most times you get a shared van, so you go round all sorts of other places while the other people in the van are dropped off. With Zippy, I have always had a private ride. Both companies offer a $34 flat initial fee, like you said.

Is Zippy $34 for one person or for everyone?

I got my quote back and although they don't break down how they came to the quote, it averages out to $15/person each way. They also state it's a shared van. I know some people don't like shared shuttles but I don't mind them. So after the coupons super shuttle offers, Zippy's is a few dollars cheaper.

You can use "my guy" Ron ~ his business card says VIP Service (Kim Sontha Transportation). The number is (562) 396-8106 (company number) OR the number where he has always answered is 562-895-6713 We've had a Toyota Highlander & Lexus SUV for our past trips. He's great ~ earlier this month his buddy Jefferson took us from the airport to our hotel and Ron took us back to the airport ~ Jefferson's # is 909-754-5822

We've had as many as 5-6 people at a time ~ I pay him $45 + a $5 tip each way.

Thanks for all the tips/advice!

While the taxi van seems like the cheapest route, I'm worried about them taking a while to pick us up from the hotel to return to LGB. Do they allow you to call ahead and schedule a time for them to pick us up?

Disneymommma- thanks for the tip but I'm not sure our family would fit in a smaller SUV with all our luggage & stroller.

We are renting a minivan for the last two days of our trip to explore the beaches. The day we fly out our plane leaves at 3:30 so it gives enough time to explore a little on the way to LGB if we leave in the morning. I don't know what time your flight leaves but it's always an option. We are renting from alamo which is in DTD and with a small discount through costco it's about $64.

Thanks for that info - I think I'm going to call for our trip in December :thumbsup2

Yes, you can call ahead of time to arrange for pickup. We have never had a problem with them being late. We always just call the morning of the day we are leaving.
