We are going to Disney with, among others, my FIL who we will be renting a scooter for. He can walk, but has had two knee replacement surgeries, and doing Disney for 9 days without a scooter, will not be possible for him. We will have my minivan, so plan on driving to the parks, and putting the scooter in the back. However, everyone says that you should always take the bus to MK because if you drive, you have to take a boat/monorail from the parking lot anyway.

So my question is - If you have done Disney in a scooter, is it easier to drive to MK and transfer to the boat, or should we take the bus to that one park?

TIA

We have a child in a wheelchair and ALWAYS take the bus to MK, even when we have a vehicle.
For the other parks, we vary. Sometimes bus, sometimes drive.

The bus at MK drops you off right at the entrance into MK (very short walk).

If you drive, you will have to wait in line (maybe short line, maybe a longer wait) at the parking lot booth to enter the lot and then drive to a parking spot. If you are parking in handicapped parking (with a valid state issued handicapped parking permit) you may have hunt for a space because the lots can get filled.
You will have a bit longer walk from where you park to get to the Ticket and Transportation Center than you would from the bus to the park entry.

Then, walk across the Ticket and Transportation Center to the boat. Deepening on when you arrive, you my have to wait a bit in line for the boat to arrive or for a boat with room to get on.

When leaving, you may have to wait for the several boats to have space.

The buses, you may also have to wait, but once you get on, it is onto an air conditioned bus that will drop you at your resort.
Once you get on the boat, you still have to get to your van (which will be hot) and drive back to your resort. If you are leaving at peak time, you may spend as
Much time in the parking lot in a slow moving line as you would spend waiting or the bu.

we stay off property and always have to use the ferry/monorail to get to mk. we have almost always choosen the ferry. it holds a lot of people and has plenty of room for scooters. you don't have to maneuver in small spaces, very easy. the monorail, they put a ramp to your door but there isn't too much extra room and we didn't like that as much.
