I am hoping someone can offer some help to our dilemma! We are arriving in Orlando for our first trip to disney and we are very excited!! We are staying one night at CBR and then the rest of the week at OKW. We weren't planning on renting a car because of the bus and thought that would be convenient to not deal with driving. Our problem is groceries! We can't get them on the way from the airport because we are staying at CBR the first night, but definitely want them for our stay at OKW. We like cooking and staying in at night, more relaxing then taking our tired children to a restaurant! What should we do?? Rent a car so we have it to go to the store? Also, is it easy to drive to the parks? Hubby thinks that driving might be less hassle than waiting for the bus. This really isn't about the money issue..as we will probably spend as much in airport transporation as we would renting a car, it's about convenience! What do you experts think? Sorry so long winded!! This board is awesome!

If the $$ is about the same I would go for the car rental. I like the independence. Even if you only use the car once to get groceries, you still come out ahead. You can use the busses if you want to, even if you have the car!;)

First, you may wish to go to the grocery store more than once during the week. If you need something else, you have the car.
Second, the bus transportation is very good. But, you may wish to go to Celebration, to Old Town in Kissimmee, to the various malls nearby to WDW, or even visit downtown Orlando.
Third, it is easy to drive to the parks. The bus transportation system is also easy to understand and takes you wherever you might want to go nearby to WDW.
Fourth, driving from the airport (Orlando International) to WDW to CBR is very easy. You might want to take 417 south and get off at Oceola Parkway or Celebration. Either will get you to WDW very easily.
Fifth, either choice would work well, but you have more independence to go visit other local attractions with the car.

Hope you have a safe trip to WDW and enjoy the experience. Read the DIS boards and ask lots of questions.

Like other posters recommend, you might as well get the car if it's going to be about the same. Worst case, is that it sits in the parking lot!

I always recommend taking the bus to the parks, especially the Magic Kingdom. And staying at OKW, you should have no problems with them. But the car can be used to head out and get groceries and visit all the tourist traps in the area. A little bit more flexibility.

. We stay at OKW a lot(DVC members) and you will enjoy the covenience of parking right in front of your villa, going to restraunts, resort hopping, grocery store,DD,etc. You can still use the busses for the parks.

P.S. "Welcome to the DIS"!!
