I know there are a few threads about this already but I'm just wondering what other Aussies have found to be the best forms of transport to get to non-disney things?

For half the time I will have some friends with me that live in America so they can drive but the other half of the time I'll be on my own. There are a few different things I'd like to see by myself, including a day at Universal Studios. I'm after something I don't have to pre-book (would like to see TNA but if I can't than would like to get transported back to the resort)...what is the best/cheapest/easiest option?

Thanks in advance :)

Snickals - I just returned from a whirlwind trip at WDW. I stayed at CSR. We flew in late (touched down at 10 pm) and by the time we caught Magical Express and got to our hotel room it was closer to midnight.

We crashed and woke up the next day determined to go to see the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. We got a taxi from CSR to Universal. It cost us about $35 - $40 for the one way trip. The "taxi" was more a private car that happened to be outside. Never worked out if the driver had an arrangement with CSR or not but he turned out to be fantastic. He gave us his mobile number, said he needed 30 minutes advanced notice, and when we were ready to return, we called him.

I know it is cheaper to organise the Mear's shuttle to get between WDW and Universal; but they need 24 hours notice. For our schedule, we just couldn't make the 24 hour rule.

Well that sounds good (a little pricey though?) for convenience. I'm staying at Pop Century, would they have the same services there?
I read about Mears but like I said I don't know what times I'd want to return to the resort.

There should be taxi's available from all Disney resorts.

I understand that the taxi fare may be less if you catch the taxi from the TTC. From the resorts it seems to be around that price. DH and I debated hiring a car for the day; but we caught the cab at 7.30 am; and with our late arrival, the car hire didn't seem like a workable solution either.

There is a car hire place within WDW; but from what I have read when I was doing the research, it seemed to take at least 1 - 2 hours from leaving your resort to actually picking the car up. I didn't have that amount of time to spare.

Maybe someone else can provide an alternative option.

I don't think it's safe for me to drive a car on the opposite side of the world while by myself lol

Been reading this thread http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2517318 and it's put my mind at ease, the first trip to Universal will be with my friends but the second trip by myself will be my second week so I'll have time to call ahead. And I like they give you a return voucher to return at any time :)

Will do :) Still looking at best ways to travel to other non-disney places though

Snickals - I would have thought that Mears would provide the service you need for most of the other non-Disney locations?

They do (according to their website) go to SeaWorld :)
I am still researching things and working things out lol
