I am trying to better understand the transport from resort to resort for dinner. How would I get from the wl to the royal Floridian or other resorts? Is there a good resource out there that explains this? Does it make more sense to stay at a resort near downtown dsney. Da aide the transport seems easier or to stay off site and then jet drive?

I should also mention we plan to spend most of our time at mk, ak and maybe epcot with no park hopper.

WDW transportation works wonderfully from resort to parks but not so good when going resort to resort.

In your scenario from WL to GF (Grand Floridian), you would need to take ferry to MK, the transfer to another ferry (or monorail). Or bus to TTC, then monorail to GF.

Staying at a resort near DTD will not help unless you just plan on driving yourself. Then it doesn't matter where you stay.

If you plan on touring only one park a day, then just take WDW transportation from WDW resort to park. If you have dinner reservations at another resort, take the appropriate bus/ferry/monorail to that resort.

If you plan on going back to the park after dinner, that;s easy. If plan on going back to your own resort, you might be better off going to DTD and transfer.

I couldn't understand you last question.

If you have a lot of late dinner ADRs you might want to consider renting a car. That makes it easy to get to any of the resorts, DTD, and the parks (except perhaps MK). My family stays on-site, but rents a car to make travel easier. You can also take taxis between resorts; the average cost is between $15 and $20.

Is it easier to stay offsite than worry about the transport challenges? We have young kids so we were planning on going to the park in the am than back to resort for naps and then out to dinner either at a different resort, most likely a dinner buffet. I am thinking dinners at ak, rf, bc, cr, and pr.

Thanks,
Susan

That's subjective. Driving your own car is faster but not necessarily easier. Are you okay with driving in new surroundings? Will you have a stroller? You may need one if your children are very young and you are parked far from the tram loading area. If you are staying offsite, you will need to pay for parking at the theme parks.

If you drive, you can go from point A to Point B without having to transfer (with the exception of MK, where visitors must park at TTC and ferry/monorail to park entrance.

If you stay at WDW resort, you can take a bus/monorail/ferry to parks directly.

WDW transportation may take some extra time, but it can be fun for the kids to ride the monorail or to take a ferry across a lake.

You mention WL in your op, is that where you plan on staying? Will you have a rental car if you stay onsite or just if you stay offsite. Have you been to WDW before or is this your first trip? Is budget a consideration?

The resorts around the Magic Kingdom (Contemporary,Grand Floridian and Polynesian) are all accessed by the resort monorail, the Wilderness Lodge you can take a bus or boat to the MK,from the MK you can get the resort monorail to any of the three resorts on the monorail line.

The Epcot resorts( Y&B Club,Boardwalk,Swan and Dolphin) can all be accessed via walking or boats, they also reach DHS and Epcot's International Gateway entrance.

If going from lets say a MK resort to an Epcot resort the best way would be a bus from the MK resort to DHS since the same boats that access the Epcot resorts also reach DHS and the back entrance of Epcot called the International gateway. You could also walk from DHS to the Epcot resorts(about 15-20 minutes) as well as to the International Gateway entrance to Epcot(about 20-30 minutes from DHS).

The whole transferring at Downtown Disney to go from resort is unnecessary most of the time since many of the resorts are close to the theme parks, what you need to know is what resorts are close to which park and how to get to them from the park. For example if you're going from Coronado Springs to the polynesian it makes no sense to wait 15-20 minutes for a bus to DTD which is further to the east and will take another 20 minutes driving time and then go to the bus stop for the Polynesian and wait another 15-20 minutes to get on a bus which will take 20 minutes to reach the Poly. It's much easier to just grab a bus from Coronado Springs to the Magic Kingdom and grab a monorail to the Poly, you'll probably wait a lot less for a MK bus from the Coronado than a DTD bus and when you get to the MK you probably won't wait that much either for a resort monorail to the Poly.
