Transitions lenses

Then either they aren't Transitions or your windshield's UV shielding is gone and needs to be replaced. The technology works on UV rays. The windshield blocks UV rays. That's just how it is.
I know someone who really likes her new transitions drivewear lenses. They are great for driving, that's what they were designed for.

But Transition Drivewear are ALWAYS darkened. They are not regular Transitions. They never go clear and cant be worn indoors. They are simply polarized sunglasses that change the color/degree of tint depending on the wavelength of light coming in. So, they adapt to clouds, rain, early morning or late afternoon glare, etc. They can't function as your only pair of glasses.

Transitions is a brand name, and within that brand they have several product lines. One of their newer products does in fact work in the car, so they must have figured out some alternative "trigger" to the darkening. But my son and I both have them so I know it isn't just marketing BS.

Mine are their Xtractive line, and they're not ever truly clear but the tint is a light enough grey for indoor wear. They do function as my only pair of glasses on days I wear glasses, and though they're not fully clear in the house or as dark as dedicated sunglasses in the car, they're more than adequate for both uses.

OK, sure, if Transitions makes some other product, then maybe that one works for driving. But I think this topic was clearly about what we all call Transition lenses, which are the UV-activated lenses that go from clear to dark outside and that don't work in cars.

Probably these:

TRANSITIONS® XTRACTIVE®

One of the most popular transition lenses on the market, Transitions® XTRActive® lenses are the fastest and darkest photochromic technology yet. Their ability to quickly adapt to changing light conditions means you'll get the tint you need in no time.

Unlike Transitions® Signature®, which does not have behind-the-wheel activation, XTRActive® lenses are perfectly responsive in the car, making it one of the best transition lenses for driving!

Note: XTRActive® lenses are not polarized but do come with multiple anti-reflective coating options.

How do they make you look old? Maybe you need a different style of frames. My teen boys wear transitions as do most other kids who have glasses here in CA where lots of the schoolday is outdoors. No one looks "old."
Perhaps it is because I remember my grandfather's wife used to wear them, my aunt who is pushing 70 wears them, and like in the church crowd, a lot of the older people there wear them. Perhaps it is just my perception and opinion. I have seen younger people wear them before on some more rare occasions. I even wore them myself for a couple years and they are very handy and convenient. It really beats having to keep up with 2 pairs of glasses. However, at this point I just don't feel like they fit in with my own personal style.

I find that a simple clip on sunglass that can be purchased a Walmart of most any retail variety store or Drug Store work perfectly over my Transitions while in the car. It takes two seconds to put on and blend right in. Most people don't even know you are wearing them. About $12.00. I only use them when driving because my transition glasses get really dark outside and clear out very quickly when going into stores. Transitions are great for theme parks.

Yes, they are. Disney was the reason I first bought transitions. As I said upthread, I have distance and near vision deficits as I've gotten older. I also need sunglasses at Disney. Got the bifocals with Transitions and it made my trip so much better than struggling with single vision sunglasses, pulling out readers, etc.

I've been lucky and my eyesight has always been quite good. It is hard to see the difference with or without glasses for distance, but since I need the readers I didn't want to bother dragging around readers everywhere I go. So sometimes I use my glasses for distance but really don't need them, but as long as I need the other I might just as well were them. Same goes for contacts. I would have to carry readers and sunglasses if I used contacts like I used too. That made no sense at all so with the transitions and the trifocals I am good for anything.
