First, do transferred points retain their home resort booking privilege and use years? For example, if I trade my 100 VGF points for an equal number of SSR points, does the recipient of my points get the 11 month booking window at VGF for stays booked for April of the respective use year or later?

Second, can you trade points in advance of the use year? For example, we have a big family trip planned for 2021, and it's going to require 3 years of points. If I find a willing participant can we set up the trade of those points now, even though I wouldn't be booking for several years?

You can only transfer 1 time per year. That's 1 out or 1 in not 1 of each.

You can do one transfer, either in or out, each UY. And you can do it for the current UY and next UY but not any further ahead than that. Transferred points can be banked but not borrowed so that might help you out if timed correctly, but it's not possible to do a swap in the same UY since you can only do one or the other - transfer out or in. However if it worked out you could transfer your current points out but receive the other points into your next UY, or vice versa.

I'm also going to guess that not all CM's are super familiar with transfers.

So basically a "point swap" can't happen. If I wanted to do this, I'd have to have the other party actually book some rooms, and I'd have to do the same, and there'd always be the risk they could cancel the reservation. Seems like too much trouble.

I guess I'll just wait for the seven month window ... which luckily isn't too bad at SSR. Thanks!

You could do the transfer option if they are different UY...ie: you get 2017 UY points and they get your 2016 UY points...as it is one transfer per UY. If you are looking for at a trip that far off, you wouldn't be able to do anything with getting a transfer of the points you want until much closer.

Yes, having to get someone to make your reservation and vice versa would not be as easy as the point transfer. The option too is that you get some of the SSR points transferred in to book some nights during home resort advantage and then use your points to cover the rest at 7 months. As you mention, SSR is a big resort and for most of the time, getting what you want there isn't usually an issue!!

It can but you'd have to do it as a rental in each direction and trade reservations rather than transfer points. Of you'd have to do transfers different UY. You can aggregate 2 years worth of points as a transfer by transferring 2 UY and banking the first. IMO it's easier, better and ultimately accomplishes the same goal by renting from someone and renting out your points rather than trying to make it complicated.
