We are planning to transfer some of our Southwest points from our son to my husband in order to buy a one way ticket. How long does it take for the points to get from one account to another? How soon can we book the ticket?

transferring points is typically not a good financially since it costs so much.

Why not just book his ticket?

Even if one of you needs a few points it is likely better just to buy a few.

Transfering SWA points are cheaper than buying points. They cost $10 per 1000 transferred and $29.50 per 1000 to buy. So it is cheaper to transfer point. And take about 30 minutes to transfer.

If we were to buy his ticket it would be $105. We need to transfer 3000 points to make enough in one account to get the ticket with points. I believe it would cost $30 to transfer these points. This sounds like a much better price.

So Shelly, you think I should see the transefer of points and be able to buy the ticket within a half hour? That would be great.

Yes all 5 of us are going. We have enough points between all of our accounts to buy all 5 RT tickets. We have already booked 9 OW, we just don't have enough in one account to get the last OW, so we are planning to transfer enough from one account to another to get the last ticket. We need 5246 points for the OW ticket. My son has 3000 points and my husband has 2490, so if we transfer from one account to the other, it will make just enough for the ticket.
