Transferring Reservation?

Has anyone ever held a reservation through Disney then transferred it to another TA? How does that work?

I've done this a couple of times. I just gave the travel agent my reservation info and had them call DCL while I held on the line. It's usually pretty painless, but once early in DCL's life, a reservations supervisor called and tried to talk me out of it, saying that the agent would own the reservation and "could do anything they want with it." When I asked what they might do, the person conceeded that any travel agent who wanted to stay in business would not change a person's reservation without their approval. The whole thing just made me feel that DCL did not want to share their commission with the travel agent, but in the end, they did release the reservation.

Since that one unpleasant experience, I've never had any problems. When you book on board, they even mention that you can transfer it to an agent once you get back on land.

I've booked onboard to get the great rates and onboard credit and always transferred my reservation over to DreamsUnlimited where they gave me an extra discount based on the price of my cruise. They have always been very courteous and answered all my questions very quickly. The DCL agent onboard the ship smiled when I mentioned transferring the reservation to DreamsUnlimited and said they were a very good company and very easy for DCL to deal with.

Hope this helps!:wave2:

Hey Cadburysmom- Are you saying that in addition to the 10% onboard discount and the 200.00 stateroom credit, Dreams will give you their credit or discount in addition to and not instead of any deals from DCL???

We heard of some folks booking late with DCL, then transferring the RES to an agent and negotiating a much cheaper rate. Is this possible. I'd like to try something similar this summer. We have some flexibility in our plans.

Yes, you can book onboard and save 10% and get the $200 shipboard credit and then transfer to DU and get their rebate too. That's what I did. I just couldn't get the extra shipboard credit that DU was offering, because DCL only lets you have 1 shipboard credit. Since my $200 credit was higher than the $100 one from DU, I kept the $200 one.

Here's the link with the rebate details:

Well Cadburysmom and piglet33 are right. I sent an e-mail to Dreams to verify this question and they responded that if I switch my ressie from my current TA to DreamsUnlimited I can keep my onboard rebooking 10% discounted rate and my 200.00 stateroom credit, and I'd be eligible for their rebate program which in my case (booking 2 staterooms) would be another 225.00 savings. Not a tough decision for me to make here.

Cool- this thread just answered my questions on another thread. I'm definitely going to rebook onboard THEN switch the ressie over to DU. :)

******HOLD EVERYTHING-******- The other thread I asked the question in is getting some contrary info from the people at Dreams Unlimited. It seems that you might need to have DCL stay as the lead agent and NOT first have your other TA take your ressie over. Wait for more details.

Here's what I now know. When rebooking onboard you must specify that you want DCL to be your lead agent for your new ressie. Not requesting them is the same as allowing them to keep your old TA as your lead agent. Dreams WILL NOT allow to to switch from another agent to them but you can switch from DCL to them, so if you rebook onboard keep DCL ask that DCL be your lead agency and then transfer to Dreams for the additional rebate. Hope this helps clear things up.

Well thanks for that clarification... because we are booked with Allseastravel for this cruise- so that means it would have stayed with allseas if we'd rebooked without specifying DCL as our lead agent? And I gather from what you are saying that means it couldn't be switched over to DU then. So that's good to know- thanks!
