If I am interested in acquiring points from someone via a transfer, how does that transaction take place?
- The giving member has to call member services to initiate the transfer
- They must know all of their member information (obviously)
- They must know all of your member information (member # and possibly confirmatory information like address)
- The points must not be banked or borrowed, but they can be banked AFTER the transfer
- Points retain their original use year and home resort
- Points will NOT show up online if you look in, only in the DVC system, make sure to get and keep your transfer confirmation number
- Best bet is to do a conference call with you, the giving member and member services
I just did this last week. Another member transferred (thank you!!!!) 165 points to me. We have an August use year. I transferred in October 2012 HHV points and immediately banked them on the same call (banking period ends May 31 for October use year, didn't want to miss it).
It was slick and easy - just hard that the points don't show up for you to see. But they did disappear from her account.
I prefer this over renting if you don't need to worry about the "1 transfer per use year" rule. It allows you control over the points and reservation.
When it came to compensation (even though technically you aren't allowed to Sell points), how did you go about it. Did you do a paypal transaction just before the call to MS? or before? Just don't want to send money and then the other line go dead you know.Lucky man- no member except someone who knows you in real life would transfer the points before you paid for them.
Lucky man- no member except someone who knows you in real life would transfer the points before you paid for them. Use Paypal so you are protected and you will be fine. I bought transfer points earlier this week. The payment went to the member, he called member services and did the transfer, he emailed me the confirmation number, then I called MS and banked the points. It was super easy and the transaction took less than an hour total. And yes, he needed my name and address of record off the DVC member site and my member number. I emailed these to him before he called to do the transaction. I did not need to be on his call-as soon as there is a transaction confirmation number any MS agent can see the points in your account.
The "one transfer" per use year rule just means either you accept transfers in for that year or transfer out for that year, correct? I can actually receive transfers in from multiple accounts as long as they're all coming in and none going out, correct?
Only one transfer in or out, not multiple.
That is interesting. Do you know when that change occurred? I know in the past, multiple transfers in have been allowed as long as there were no transfers out. This isn't something I have really even thought on in quite a while, however.
That was the original policy back in 1991 and was changed to allow multiple transfers per year several years later - and then changed back to the original 1 transfer per membership per Use Year in or out policy we still have today. I think the current policy changed about 6 years ago but don't really recall the date.
Hello
I'm just wanting to understand this correctly.....
I have an August use year. Does that mean that i can have points transferred in before August of this year and then again Post August 1 of this year?

That is great info. Thank you.
My contract is June use year, so in about a week I'll be on June use year 2013.
If someone transfers in points to me and I want to use those transferred points for a trip in July of this year, when my contract is in 2013 use year, does it matter what use year the points they send me are? (i.e. their points could still be 2012 use year or could also be 2013).
Very interesting. Thank you!
