Hi Everyone: Have a question. If I own 2 contracts, 150 points at BCV and 150 points at OKW. I assume I can transfer 100 from OKW contract to BCV contract. If I transfer these 100 points at month 11 can they be used to book a room at BCV during the 11 month window? Thanks.

unfortunately, you cannot use those transferred points until the booking window opens for those specific points. So ... even though those points are transferred to the BCV account, they retain their OKW booking windows, and you would not be able to book your entire trip until the 7 mo window. In other words ... their is no great advantage to do so. You can book as many days as you are able with your BCV account, then attempt the remaining days with your OKW account.

I was a bit disillusioned about transferring points myself when we bought our second account.

Actually that's not quite acccurate. That's what the rules say but it's not true. The DVC computer can not currently track the home resort and use year of transferred points. While I doubt they'd let you transfer points from one contract to another just for this purpose, there are ways around it. They are aware and working on this problem so the answer could change soon.

Dean - what method can be used that would allow booking @ 11 months with transferred points?

Currently all you have to do is own at that resort and transfer the points in. That may be good if you own where you want to go, that may be bad if you want to buy points from another resort to take advantage of the 11 month window. I expect them to get this fixed though and would be uncomfortable playing this game. You could lose out either way. They can do a work around manually to use the transferred points at their origin resort but aren't willing to do this routinely. You have to "encourage" them to do it.

Tom, just thought i'd mention that the "loophole" will only work if your OKW and BCV contracts are two different membership#s. (usually meaning they are different Use Years OR the names on the deeds are different)

also, say MemberA owns some BCV points.
and MemberB owns an OKW contract, and a BCV add-on.

MS will NOT let MemberA transfer their BCV points into MemberB's OKW contract.
they will opt to put the BCV points into MemberB's BCV add-on contract instead. thus, once transferred, they will still be BCV points in the computer.

but, if a different scenario, MemberC who owns only an OKW contract.
then, when MemberA transfers BCV points into MemberC's account, the MS computer will "convert" them into OKW points. this is the "loophole".
unless of course, you encounter a MS CM who is well versed in transfer rules, and who will manually enter the transfer in correctly.

I'd guess that's right if they are attached contracts but not if they are totally separate, usually different use yeasrs.

Do you mean that MS can't tell what resort transferred points came from? I only ask because my in-laws just transferred us 17 points to use for an upgrade and when I called to change the reservation, the CM did know that they were OKW points (MS CM made a comment about how nice that the whole family owns at OKW, so she knew where those transferred points came from as well).

Just curious!

They can tell but usually have to do major research to do so. In reality at this point they don't know are care, as a rule. The problem is that could change tomorrow so anyone trying to pull a fast one may get caught.
