Transferring Magic Band

Last year we were onsite guests and got bands. This year we are offsite but the tickets we bought automatically linked to our bands. My mother in law is not coming, so I gave my brother in law her band to use. Will this be a problem? I know they scan fingerprints so you can't transfer tickets, but if he is the first person to use the band this year I'm thinking it should be fine.

This won't work. Once the bands are linked to a person they can not be transferred.

ETA: Your MIL's magic band is attached to her DME account which is where the ticket that she used was for your last trip. (Either she had her own account or she was a member of yours). It is not attached to a ticket, but the person.

You can purchase a new band for him on the Disney store online, or in the parks.

He can just use a ticket instead of a magic band. It has an RFID chip that will work at the entrances and for FP+. A magic band is not necessary.

If your MIL does not have a MDE, meaning you or someone else manages it, it can work. Just go in and change that family's name and link the new tickets. I have done this with our nephews because I don't like to keep adding new people to my account.

If your MIL has her own MDE account, you won't be able to change the name so the MB won't transfer.

That's not how it works. Once it's linked to an MDE account, it is linked to that account forever.

I just called and they said I have to get her account info, or have her log in to her account and transfer the ticket before he can use it because it is already linked to her. This is just going to be difficult since she isn't talking to me which is the reason she isn't coming on the trip :worried:

Do you have the ticket confirmation number? If so, call Disney IT and tell them to unlink the ticket. If not, tell your brother to deal with it? :confused3 Good luck!

If the ticket is linked to her but had never been used, he can just use her band, scan his fingerprint, and it will be fine.

Yes. She used it last year and our new tickets automatically linked to our bands from last year.

When you called did you talk to the regular customer service or did you talk to IT customer service? When I had an issue with my father's ticket being attached to my brother (they both have the same name and for some reason their computers gave my brother both tickets) I had to go through IT customer service rather than the regular number. I would call the regular number and ask to speak with IT or internet services.

Tough situation and I see you only have a few days to go or I'd say cancel and rebook with your brother's name instead. I think the previous posters have the best solution to call and speak with IT. There has to be a way around this. I've heard of people going after someone who was supposed to be on the trip passed and someone else used the ticket.
