I am getting a new phone today. The last time I got a new phone, I got it at the Verizon store and they offered to transfer my address book for X amount of money. I declined. This time I ordered the phone online, so there was no offer to do this. I can't remember how much it costs. I am sure I could take the phones into a store and they will do this, but I don't remember the cost.

Or, if I was able to backup everything that I had to my computer, I am curious if they would transfer to the new phone. They are both LG V-Cast phones.

Anyone have any experience with this?

They CHARGED you for that? Yikes for that Verizon store, in my experience Cingular & T-Mobile do it for free.

With my last phone(Cingular) all they did was switch out my sim card & put my previous sim card into the new phone & they did it for free. But I was also with a friend when she got a new T-Mobile phone & the sales reps in the store did that for free.

If you are not sure how to switch out the sim cards, you must know some tech-savvy person who could maybe do it for you.

good luck & happy phoning!
agnes!

My local Verizon store "posts" a $10 fee for the service, but they've never charged me... and I've done it a couple times.

Thanks! Maybe I will just bring the phones over there tonight and see if they will do it for me. Even if they charged me $10 it would be worth it. Would games. pix and video transfer, or just the address book?

Does it matter if I activate the new phone or not before I go?

Games do not transfer. By defualt they just do the address book, but you can ask them to do the pix/video too. Or just send the pix to PixPlace (a verizon service).

And Verizon doesnt use sim card technology, so you cant do it yourself.

Wow, I didn't know they charged for that. We got new phones with Verizon nearly two years ago and the guy just did it for us. He knew my husband through a business group they were in though and also gave us a big discount on accessories but I didn't know that was something that they normally charged for. I plan on switching to Cingular when our contract is up and am a little concerned about transferring the info. I have so many numbers in there! If I have ever called a person (in the last four years) then their number is in my phone. Including all the McDonald's in the area due to a couple of Disney Happy Meal toy lines that we were missing just one for. My husband laughs at me because I have Cookie Cutters in there. But we were at the doctor's office once and he said, "He (my son) needs a hair cut." I called them right then and we stopped on the way home. Much nicer than stopping in to find a hour wait. If I lost that phone I would cry so hard!

Do you know if your current phone has a sim card? If you don't know, take the back off of your phone and look to see if there is a chip looking thing in it. That would be a sim card. All you have to do is take that out and put it in your new phone. All the numbers that were stored there will be moved to your new phone. If you have some downloaded games, then I think, but not positive, that the games would transfer also but the regular games on your phone could be different from your new phone.

Sorry, Lora, I didn't see this respone before I asked about the sim card. Guess you have to charm them into changing over for you;)

If you get your bill online from Verizon instead of mailed to you, you can use the Backup Assistant Program for free.

If you go to "Get it Now" and go to "Get Going" you can download the Backup Assistant program. It will say that there is a $1.99 charge for it, but as long as you get your bill electronically the fee is waived.

If you log-in to your account there should be information about Backup Assistant at the bottom of the page.

If you download the program to your old phone before you transfer the service, and then download the program to your new phone it will download your entire address book for you. Very easy to use!

You can also look at your address book online.

Thanks for that info. I may just do that and print the list out before we switch over. It would be easier than trying to manually add the numbers to the new phone by looking at the conact list.

Thanks ECU, I will try that now. Hopefully my battery won't die. I have spent the last hour sending my pix and video to my email or pixplace. Lol.

The backup assistant worked! :thumbsup2

I transfered back my fave pix from pix place.

I am good to go.

Thanks for your help.
