This question my seem strange, but thought I'd ask here.

A friend is about to lose 35 pts., and their daughter in law is booked for a trip in Aug 09 a DVC person also. Can this friend transfer her 35 pts. to the DIL, and use those pts for that Aug trip, and put 35 pts of the DIL's back in her allotment/account of pts.

thanks for your comments.

Only one transfer--either in or out, not one of each--is allowed in a use year. If you do one in current use year and wait to do the other in following use year it MIGHT be possible, but point reallocations can be complicated, especially so close to the reservation date. I would call MS and ask before proceeding. And get a NAME of the CM if you get the go ahead.

Yes, as long as they haven't used their one transfer in/out for the year and as long as the daughter didn't borrow the 35 points for her original reservation. You can't "unborrow" points.

I'd call MS and make sure it all would work as planned before actually doing the transfer.

The friend would be doing a transfer out and the daughte-in-law a transfer in. I"m assuming they have separate contracts or no transfer would be necessary in the first place so there should be no problem as long as neither of them have done another transfer in or out so far this year.

Plus if there is a waitlist for that stay, she would actually be rebooking the stay using different points. So when she cancelled to rebook, it would go to the first person at the top of the list. The daughter's points would become holding points since she cancelled that reservation within 30 days of the start of the reservation (for an Aug 09 reservation).

There are a lot of complications here.

But it sounds like they really just want to swap points and have the daughter-in-law replace the points. Or maybe I am misunderstanding the scenario.

I read it as the friend transfering points to the daugther-in-law and the DIL using those points instead of her own 35. Her own 35 would go back into her own account.

thanks for all your comments, yes the friend is trying to salvage the points by transfering them to the DIL, who is booked for next month. Since my friend failed to bank the points, she would rather transfer them to her DIL rather than lose them. Since the points will be lost come Sept 1, she wanted to make sure the DIL could use them in the Aug trip. I'll make a call and find out for them.

thanks again.

You can do exactly what you are saying. But....before you transfer the points, you need to check availability. As soon as you transfer the points, you need to book the night you want to replace. After that is done, you need to drop the old night and then link the two reservations.

Or....

Why not just have your friend book her the night and just drop the nights from your reservation. If you do this, I would again let MS know the reservations are together.
