Transfer ???s

Hi there - I have several questions about transferring points that I hope someone will be able to answer for me.

We are looking at planning a Grand Gathering December 2011 as a surprise for our extended family - however we do not want to give up the family vacation that we have planned for May, therefore we are thinking that renting/having the points transferred to our account may be a way to allow us to do both.

We will be around *** points shy of what we will need.

We have a February UY and our home resort is BLT (this is also where we would like to take our family).

So, here are the questions:

1. Do transferred points retain their home resort? (therefore if I want to be able to book BLT at 11 months, do I need to find a BLT owner who is wanting to rent/transfer points?)

2. When would be the best time to start looking for points? If I was to find some now, could I bank them into next year? What UYs would be best to look for? Would I be better off looking for points that I could use for our May trip instead, thereby allowing me to use our own points for the BIG trip?

yes. (and yes.)

start looking early. transferred pts can be banked into the next UY, yes. any UY that includes dec 2011 directly or after banking. either way seems like it would work to me.

Yes, transfered points retain their home resort AND use year, so you will want to be aware of that as well for booking purposes. I'd probably start purusing the rent trade boards now and maybe even post your needs now so that you have plenty of time to find what you want. Now that I typed that, I'm not sure you can actually post what you want. I don't rent points, so I'm not completely up on how the rent trade board works.

You can pretty much search for any BLT 2010 points if you start looking now as all UY's are still within their banking window. No matter which UY you find right now, it can be banked and then used for Dec 2011 trip.

Any 2010 points you get would be considered your one and only transfer for the 2010 UY. You can also get 2011 UY points. Again, any 2011 UY will work for you. These would not have to be banked before use.

The other option is a mix of both, but that would use up both your 2010 and your 2011 UY transfer.

Reminder, you can only transfer in or out once a year

You'll want to make that Dec reservation in Jan - exactly 11 months out to get the villa/s you need.

Sorry for high jacking this thread but I thought that if I transferred points from OKW to BWV then it I could use them all at the 11 month window at BWV.

Nope, OKW points will always be OKW points with the original UY.

If you transfer, the points are yours to use as you like and you have full control over the reservation you make with those points.

If you rent a reservation, you have no control over the reservation and the member who owns the points owns the reservation. They have to make any requests, add Magical Express, etc for you.

If you want to make a reservation at 11 months out and need more BWV points, you must transfer in BWV points.
