Transfer points question

I have a use year of March. I need 10 pts to complete a reservation in February (conference for work...15 minutes from the mouse? I am there!). ANYWAY...I have a friend who is lending me points. He says that his points are ok to use in February but I have a few questions.

I need 2010 points, correct? If his happen to be 2011 points, once he transfers them to me, can I borrow them? I already have 33 in 2011 that I am borrowing, so I will need his 10 to complete the reservation.

I have read and read about this but not finding exactly what I need. Thanks.

If they are 2011 points, once they are transferred to you they should be able to be borrowed. I'm pretty sure thats how you would do it. You also have the option of buying the extra points from Disney for $15 per point if they don't allow you to use the ones from your friend.

Nope, you can bank them. You just can't borrow them.

If you are traveling in Feb. 2011, the points must be valid for travel during that month.

Transferred points retain their own UY and home resort. So, any 2010 UY points will be good for travel in February. If they are from a Feb 2010 UY, they will have to be banked. If they are from any other UY, you are good to go without banking.

In addition, you can get Feb 2011 UY points as they become current UY points February 1st, 2011 and will be valid for your trip without the need to bank.

However, any 2011 points starting with a March UY and on would not be valid and since you can not borrow transferred points, those would not work for you.

So, if your friend as a February UY, you can take his/her 2011 points and still use them. If his/her UY is not February, then you must get 2010 points.

Personally, I would not use my once per year transfer for only 10 points. I think I would go ahead and purchase them direct from DVC and retain my transfer ability for a larger transaction.

remember if you are getting feb 2010 points they need to be banked by 9/30
