Transfer points question

I'm looking into having some points transfered to me (by someone I don't know). Is there a thread or a sticky somewhere that I can read through to make sure I protect myself during this transaction. I have recently read Rachel's story and sure want to avoid anything like that. I know a transfer will be safer once it happens, but want to protect myself during the process.

If you knwo the person and can do it face to face then it is really easy and safe, 3 way call to MS and push the check to the other side of the table after you confirm wth MS that the transfer has been made.

I don't know the person, so I'm looking for how to go about it to be safe for me and fair to the other party.
