If I use dark transfers, I have to cut away all the white area on the image or it will show up, right? If I use light transfer paper then the white will not show up but if there is any white in the image, then the color of the shirt will show through?
Also, any recommendations as to what paper to use?
Thanks for your help!

Yes, you have it exactly right. Another option with the dark is to put a square or rectangle border around the image so you only need to cut out the 'box'. If you are looking for dark transfers, check out my webpage (link in my signature). If you want to read other dis'ers feedback, you can find that on my webpage as well.

As far as light transfers, I cannot recommend any (because I use dark on all my shirts). Maybe someone else will come along with a white transfer suggestion. I hope this helps!

We generally prefer using the opaque (dark fabric) transfers. A technique we use is to create a background/border for the design that is roughly the same color as the t-shirt you plan to use. Then you cut away all the white surrounding the design and you get something that looks a bit more finished. Here's one of our designs (intentionally aged BTW) before printing on a dark fabric transfer and what it looked like post transfer (and after many washings I might add).

I have ordered the dark transfers from Amy two times now and will not use anything but. In my experience, they are so much softer than the other brands and they hold up better after several washings.

We made over 60 shirts for our trip last year with Avery and other brands and not all of them are looking that great. This year I am using Amy's for our trip. They may cost a little more per transfer, but I think they are well worth it.

Good luck to you with your shirts!
