transfer & home resort question

I own at VWL but need LOTS more points to book a family reunion trip -

In order to book now (during the 11 mo window) do I need to work out a transfer w/ another VWL owner or do transferred points become like my owned points?

You can have a member transfer points but the points retain their original status, as in use year, use year month, and borrowed/banked status. So I guess you would be looking for someone with your same use year month if you are at YOUR 11 month window unless someone with an earlier month would work.

I thought the 11 mo window referred to the 11 mo from our trip? We're going in Feb.05.

I'm just wondering how/if I can get the extra points since I hardly ever see VWL points offered for rent.

I haven't posted on the Rent board yet as my Father (who will be paying for the accomodations) wants to make sure we can get trip insurance and I can't check that until Monday.

ooopps, sorry, yes it would be 11 months from the date no matter what. I guess I was thinking about when the points go into your account, not that that matters either. The only other way is to wait till the 7 month and rent other home resort points. It isn't for presidents weekend or school vacation is it? If not you may be ok.

Bad news is it is for the Holday weekend. (there are 7 children involved!) Good news is we are going to be able to get trip ins even with borrowed pt - so I'm going to start hitting the rent boards! Thanks!

another suggestion would be...... book what you can with your vwl points and you could always rent points from someone with a different home resort ,(you would have to move to another resort) and either they can make the ressies or transfer the points to your account you make the ressies at their home resort.

for example you book 5 days at your resort vwl and the you can change resorts and stay at the bcv for 3 days. the kids would love the bcv because of the pool.

Just to clarify:

If you want to book the entire trip at VWL before the 7 month window opens, 100% of the points used must be VWL points. Transferred points retain their original home resort status.

Bottom line: Rent points from a VWL owner. If you can't, you'll either have to hope the time & room size you want is still available at the 7 month window, pay cash for the nights you can't swing with VWL points (this could be a back up plan for the 7 month window option), or you'll have to spend part of your trip at another resort.
