i have a non discounted reservation that starts in a week at Fort Wilderness. (room only). There is a discounted ap room at Boardwalk. Can i get the room at BW and transfer my funds from FW? I paid a couple ways (credit cards/gift cards), it would be a hassle to find all the gift cards i used. Thanks.

You can change your existing reservation to the new resort and get the AP discount without changing the reservation number. When you do that the money that you paid for the FW reservation gets applied to the BW reservation. Just call reservations and they can do it for you. As long as the reservation number stays the same there shouldn’t be a problem. :)

I agree with @Wood Nymph - should not be a problem to change the reservation. DO NOT use the word "cancel". Use the word "change".

In the future, know that you can transfer up to $1000 onto one gift card on disneygiftcard.com - you can store up to I believe 5 gift cards on there and each card can have up to $1000. I have 2 or 3 that I hang onto - then new ones that I get I'll temporarily put on the site long enough to transfer money onto one of my primaries, then I delete the empty "throw away" one. Makes it much easier - a) only 2-3 cards to hold onto; b) only 2-3 cards to have to call off the numbers on for purchases by phone.

This sounds dumb but if you have tickets purchased make sure they are kept in the process. I almost lost my fast passes yesterday because we moved resorts to a room only packages and my already purchased tickets were refunded. I had to pay the new rate to get them back.

As others have said, simply call and ask to modify your current Ft. W reservation to the new AP room at the Boardwalk. All funds will transfer and your reservation number will stay the same.

It sounds like you switched from a package to a room-only without tickets linked which would have triggered the fast passes eventually being removed from your MDE account. You have to have valid ticket media linked to MDE in order to have FP+. As long as OP has tickets linked to MDE, they won't lose FP+.

Did you look online for the Change Reservation option? If you do it yourself, the funds automatically follow your new reservation.
The only time you can't move the funds from one to another is when you have a package since that requires them to have a completely different reservation. It's much more complicated but I assume if you are looking at an AP rate it won't be a package.

They can't keep your tickets if you go from a package to room only. You don't purchase a la carte tickets, you have a package that includes both items and they can't be broken apart. If you cancel the package, there aren't any tickets left to keep. Surprised no one mentioned that you were no longer going to have tickets when you cancelled the package. I mean, that's what makes room only "room only" and not a "package", the fact that you no longer have multiple items. The common process when doing this is to buy tickets THEN cancel the package and rebook room only. (you've figured it out so mostly just mentioning for others who read along)

You’re exactly right. I was working through a travel agent and found out 7 days before I was set to arrive that I didn’t have tickets. It was incredibly frustrating and surprising. Again, it should be elementary but I wanted to call if out because as a frequent traveler to the World I want to make sure it doesn’t happen to others.

Wow, horrible for a TA to do that to you.

Wow, how awful. You are right, it's not something that a lot of folks would know or pay attention to. But that is what a TA is paid to pay attention to. I know lots of folks love to use them but it's stuff like this that makes me never recommend them. Too many pull crap like this. It's hard to find the good ones that are out there
