They also said it "only" affected 7,000 passengers. That is a lot of people to move when no one seems to be on control or know what's going on.Sentinel says service was restored at 12:40 pm. It only affected gates 30-59: United, Spirit, & American.
They have been gradually replacing the old tram vehicles with new ones, which is a good thing. One of the new vehicles stopped running; no reason know yet.
Never understood why passengers can't choose to walk on an enclosed pathway from the gates to the main terminal. It's a very short walk that can be easily made by virtually any able-bodied person. I've wondered the same at TPA in the past.
No -- it's one of the new replacements that's broken down -- the same one twice. The old ones look worn out, but they're still running fine.I guess they let the vehicles get too old. I used to work for the company that manufactured them and they all have a shelf life after which they wear out. I would not be surprised if they still had original electronics in them.
They are nothing more than rubber-wheeled, driverless busses. Those big flat bench like areas at the front/rear of the train are the control electronics.

They're only replacing the oldest vehicles, which are serving the 2 airside areas that opened with the airport. The other 2 airsides will keep using the originals for now.
I suppose "very short" is subjective, but the entire journey takes approximately 65 to 70 seconds. How fast do those trains travel? About 20 mph hour or so? Can't imagine it's much more. You can do the math on it.A very short walk??? I don't think so.

Again "short" is subjective, but in my world, 10 minutes qualifies. Regardless, nobody is saying walking should be mandatory. I just wish it were an option. I often feel like I could beat the tram.Look at it on Google maps satellite view. It is NOT a short distance. It is at least half a mile. That is a good 10 minute walk in the elements, while possibly carrying bags.

The average human walks 3.1 miles per hour, which means it would take about eight minutes to make the walk. Sign me up.2,000 ft., according to press releases by Mitsubishi. So not quite half a mile; about 3/8 mi.
Last week's multi-hour shutdown was caused by a bad battery in a door sensor. Sunday's cause has not been determined. Yesterday's was caused by "human error" by a subcontractor.
The airport authority is working on a way to reimburse traveler's affected monetarily by the shutdowns.
