Trampolines

Like others have said check your home owners insurence. I know ours has a no trampoline ppolicy and we'd have to get an additional rider if we owned one.

My friend's 3 year old broke his ankle on one last weekend. They were all being well supervised. He just came down funny on a 'double bounce' so he's in a cast for at least 6 weeks.

It definitely depends on who your home owners is through because I just asked our agent on Friday and he said our home owner's wouldn't be affected at all.

I would definately check with your homeowners insurance company. I would also make sure the trampoline is well fenced in, because kids can sneak in and use it. You don't want that type of liability on your hands.

Have you considered letting your daughters join a gym program where they have trapolines to work out on? Alot of the gymnastics clubs have them, but they also have safety procedures and supervision in place to make sure they are used properly. Then you are not personally incurring liability on it.

All I can tell you is that my SiL is a court reporter. She says she sees more lawsuits over neighbor kids getting badly injured on these and suing the owners.

We have had a trampoline for years without a net. Both boys never had an accident but since we moved we have not put it up. I did check with our ins. co and was told it would be ok and not held against us.

we have one w/ the net around it....that's the only way i would get one. on of the neighbors have one without the net, and the adults are NEVER out there to supervise....that's the main reason we got one.
the kids love it!!

Just because it has a net doesn't make it much safer....one of the kids my daughter goes to karate with was on the trampline that had the net around it..well he jumped up, his face was close to the net and on the way down his 4 permanent front teeth got caught in the net and pulled right out of his mouth! What a mess he was! His brother was jumping on the trampoline and landed wrong and broke his leg. My neighbor recently asked me if they could store their trampoline in my yard for the week since they had an insurance adjuster coming for something and they were not allowed to have trampolins with their homeowners insurance....

My kids had one for over 6 years and they loved it. We had some rules and they had to obey them if they wanted to keep the trampoline. Other then a few times they tried to bend the rules, or interpret them to their own liking we never had a problem with it. We finally sold it last year because the boys lost interest in it and we wore moving to another house. On the other hand we also have airsoft guns, ATV’s and dirt bikes.

Earlier in the thread someone spoke of "adult supervision". Even with adult supervison a child can be seriously hurt. I landed right before both parents with my foot smacking the outer metal bar. That could have just as easily been my face or head! On a tramp, nothing is certain! They're tons of fun and many people get by without a negative incident but the worry would do me in. Also, wouldn't want the possibility of a neighborhood child wandering over without my knowledge and getting hurt. No, no, no, no no! Not worth it!

Yup - it's kind of like the swimming pool thing (which is why I never had one).. If a child drowns in your pool when you're not home, it doesn't make on wit of difference that the child was trespassing to get to it.. Doesn't seem fair, but that's the way it is..

Yup. It's called "attractive nuisance," which essentially means if you've got something on your property that might attract young persons, you're out of luck if they injure themselves because of it. Basically, it's like having a flashing neon "Welcome All Children" sign in your yard!

One romp on a trampoline with my than 13 year old cost me over $1500!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He jumped and his knee hit his front adult tooth knocking it completely out of place a very loose. Dentist tried to save it - but it didn't last long.

My neice did the same exact thing - damaged her front teeth from her knee bumping them - hers were baby teeth though.

Needless to say - I hate trampolines!

American Academy of Ped is the one that says trampolines are a NO NO! My DD's peditrician is a dear friend of our family and he has almost stopped giving me a hard time about giving DD 4 a trampoline for Christmas.
Our though was that DD is either going to get hurt jumping on the bed, from the back of the couch to other furniture or somewhere else. She jumps with close supervision/netting and will be grounded from her trampoline if she begins to act crazy when she jumps.

As a dental hygienist....you wouldn't believe the horrible injuries I have seen from trampolines. Over my cold dead body would one be in my yard.....

We have one, no net. But only one person on it at a time. If we break the rule we can no long be on it for the rest of the day. Our dr. told my parents that all the accidents he has seen have been when there is more than one person on it. We live with and try to abide by the rules but my brothers and I have occassionaly broken the one person rule.
