Hi everyone,

Have not posted much for this race. I usually have a myriad of injuries at this point. Of course last year I had a stress fracture so i only went into Goofy with 3 weeks of training. I did manage to do it though, not my best times but finished.

Right now i have planned two more long runs. Original plan is 18 this Sunday and the in 3 weeks a 20. I am concerned that is too much. I will end up injured. New plan is 18 this sunday and then in 3 weeks do the back to back of 7 miles running on sat (then walk an additional 3) and then do 15 on Sunday (then walk an additional 3). Hoping i remain injury free. I am currently battling itis in my achilles and some heel pain in my right foot.

I think the new plan is better now my question is about this saturday. I am sure i do not want to do a back to back 9 on sat and 18 on sun will put me injured. So should i run 6 and then ellptical to finish up time on my feet. I am getting worried as i have not really done back to back runs this year. Even when i did my 16 miler i only did 4 miles the day before and then swam. I like the swimming, it makes my legs feel good but it is definitely not mimicking the Goofy.

Coach i know you say we dont really need to do back to backs so i am hoping i am ok. In fact it might be the reason i am not completely injured at this point. I have done goofy before so i know how it goes, but I also know my legs will be tired.

Just looking for suggestions.

Thanks

Kris,

I am good with the plan (18 then 15) and with not running this Saturday. To bring some recovery training into play, cycling or elliptical would work fine; try to get a quarter to half of the time under load that you think you will need for the 18 the following day.

The other option is to run your 18 on Saturday and follow that with 4-7 on Sunday. You are still getting the feel of running on tired legs but lowering the possibility of injury

Thanks Coach. I just wanted that second opinion. I am hoping a little under trained is better than injured. I know this is the tough part of the training. The balance of too much and not enough.
