Train to Orlando

I'm trying to look into a train to Orlando from Toronto. Amtrak doesn't appear to have that although I thought I read another post that said there was a train to NYC then to Orlando.

Has anyone from T.O. (or surrounding area) ever taken the train to Orlando? If so, how was it? To be honest I've never been on a train, it's a 17hour ride, where do you sleep or do you even sleep on one of those? I would normally fly but I am pregnant and not allowed to travel by plane at the moment. Any input would be great. Thanks!

I priced this out once and couldn't stomach the thought of how long it would take considering I have three young kids. But I was able to book through Amtrak from Toronto to Orlando in the past. Just tried now with no luck. You can try leaving from Buffalo though. That gives some results.

You can also get a cabin for an additional cost which is basically your own little room that will have beds the pull down.

Have you considered taking www.megabus.com from Toronto (bus station at 610 Bay) to New York and then take the train from there? This would probably be a less expensive option.

Or greyhound bus from Toronto? No cabin options with a bus though.

I hadn't thought of that. The only problem is that I get horrible motion sickness in the car so not sure if I can handle a bus, but I will look into it anyway...thanks!

I am going to subscribe to this thread.
Earlier this year I researched train travel from eastern Ontario to Orlando. It isn't pretty. We would need to travel to Montreal on Via Rail, then transfer to an Amtrak train to NYC. The only train connections to Orlando would leave us spending the night in a hotel in NYC, then getting on Amtrak to Orlando (forget where exactly the station is, but as I recall it is not in Orlando itself). According to what I worked out, to get a cabin for 2 adults on the last leg of the train trip, and do a return trip home on the train, would cost us close to the same amount of money as flying return Montreal-Orlando in Air Canada Business Class! Plus the extra time, and at least one night in NYC. So not worth it! Sad, because we would like to try it--but the deal breaker, as far as I am concerned in the cost of a good hotel in downtown NYC, on top of the expense of the Amtrak trip.
