Train table...for a 5 year old??

My five year old loves his GeoTrax set. We take it out once or twice a month and he builds to his heart's content for a few days. Then we take a break, and put it away. (If it's out all the time, they don't touch it and it takes up a lot of space).

It's a nice set because you can add on pieces and it stays together well. I know that some of the wood sets are easy to knock over as they use them and it can be very frustrating. The ones in dr.'s offices and bookstores and stuff are glued down so they don't have that problem.

My boys love the physical toys as well...blocks, making things out of the garbage in the recycling bin, cars, trucks, etc. So, I think that this would be a good fit for your son. Good luck!

I just saw your post about the bridge. GeoTrax does have a bridge expansion set. My younger ds just got it for his birthday in September. They also have elevated tracks and stuff like that.

I'll tell you our table is used to only "store" some of the big pieces of our Thomas set. The kids build the actual track all over the living room and make it huge!!! The table is too small for that. However when we got the table when my oldest was 2 she liked it set up just on the table to move the trains around, but once they figure out how to connect all the pieces its better on the floor so there is no limit to what kind of layout their imaginations can dream up!!!!

PP also posted about GeoTrax. We have that in addition to the wooden Thomas and it is a great train set also. 4yo DS is getting the mega airport addition for Christmas. GeoTrax the kids also like building right on the floor, not the table.

We got our boys a train table when they were 2 and 3. Initially it worked great - but as they started building layouts, it fast became too small. My older son uses it still but he builds his lego sets on it. It's still getting use - and works better for legos than it did for trains!!

Both of my grandsons love their Thomas tables, although the older one (4) uses his more for car tracks & building blocks than he does for his trains. The little one is still all about trains. If I had it to do over again, I probably wouldn't have spent that much money, but it seemed like a good way to keep some of their things a little better organized.
