Train from DLR to San Diego Zoo

Best thing is to go direct with one of the tour companies, such as StarLine for one (although there are others around). No hassle then with trains or other public transport in that case, and you'll get to spend most of the day at San Diego Zoo.

Thanks, but I am actually considering taking the train for the experience of riding the train. :) We rented a car and drove to Sea World a couple years ago. We can do the same with the zoo. I was just thinking the train ride would be fun for the kids. Has anyone done this?

The train is nice. Get off in downtown and catch a cab to the zoo. The zoo is a long long day so be prepared!

We did the train once. Enjoyed the train ride.

On a separate trip we went to the zoo for a couple of hours. It was very in your face upselling. And what a waste of paper and ink printing your photos trying to sell them to you. The tour bus lady said the flamingos are fed dye so the babies get color sooner than in the wild. I don't know if it was true but who would joke about that?! It was upsetting. Some of the animals were pacing back and forth in their small enclosures looking stressed. We have not been to any zoo since. And I'm not an "animal lover. " haha!

I took the Amtrack Surfliner from DLR to San Diego in July. It was fun and easy. The train station was very convenient. I think the cost for a Lyft was less than $7, not including the tip. The travel time was about and hour and a half. It was just enough time to enjoy a glass of wine with a little reading and looking out the window.

Now THAT sounds like the way to go from DL to SD!

I just had some friends ride the train up from SD to the meet me at the parks then head back.

By time they paid for round trip for two and Ubers on both ends plus schedule on both legs ended up being a rush to make the train on time, it would have worked out a cost wise to be a complete wash vs renting a car and they would have had a much more relaxed flexible schedule...but they both said the train portion was great but not worth it for them in the end.

So unlikely to be true. If only you had contacted the zoo to let them know that an employee was saying such things.

Some animals pace bc of stress and some just pac. Fwiw.

I spent a lot of time at zoos when ds was little. Learned a ton.

I'd rethink your plan. We did this once and it was incredibly awkward. The dessert was not good either. We've eaten there a couple of times after for dinner and the desserts were also sub par.
