I am so thankful that my DH went through this area on his run just 2 hours before this happened. Now there are reports that a car was trying to beat out the train and caused the derail. I just hope that the people transported to the hospital will be OK. Prayers to everyone involved.

Wow! Thanks for the story. I think I will avoid my local train tracks as much as I can!

No reason to avoid them. Just don't try and beat out a train and if you are the first car after the gates go down stay back, don't creep up close to the tracks.

My DH is always saying how he sees people crossing infront of them. They can not stop in an instant.

It really burns my butt up to see cars trying to out run the train!!! :furious: :furious: My hubby is a conductor and he sees it alllll the time and has had some narrow escapes. :sad2:

Prayers for those involved.

I live in the other end of Wood County. My dad always told me to not stop right up by the tracks when the warning signs are down, just in case--now I can see why!

I didn't really mean it that way. I really meant that I would stay back from the tracks when I stop.

I only have one crossing that I use with any frequency.

It's just an important reminder to pay attention.

I was wondering why I wasn't hearing any trains in my backyard.

I HATE :furious: CSX. We built a house, train tracks in backyard about 500 ft. back. Researched the schedule before we built, about 10 trains a day that just chugged along. No biggie.

CSX buys the line, adds another set of tracks, adds louder horns. My house even rattles sometimes.

Now my nice, large pretty house's value went in the toilet !

I hope everyone is ok, but I hope it costs CSX alot of money to help even out what I lost on my house.

My DH works for CSX out of Willard. I read this to him and he is curious how you researched the schedule because there really isn't a set schedule.

I am not trying to start anything. I grew up right next to the tracks in Sheffield Lake. So I can relate to the house rattling.

Day after day I would spend hours sitting here and writing down times and length of times it took for the trains to pass.

Granted, the schedule wasn't the same everyday, but in general, about 10 a day and they only took about 30 seconds to pass.

I could handle the traffic if they didn't blow the horns EVERYTIME they are behind my house. Now do you get my frustration ?

The ironic thing is, my oldest son has always been fascinated by "Choo choo's" (as he said as a child). He still has an interest in being a conductor. Any foresight in that ?

BTW...the tracks must be clear, the trains are running again.

You don't even CARE that is was the fault of the CAR not the TRAIN?! You just want CSX to pay for some supposed "injustice" to you.:sad2: Jesus lady, just sell your house.......

I hope everyone in the accident are ok! My brother is a train engineer and he's hit 2 cars. It really, really shakes him up. But there is nothing he can do, it takes a long time to stop the train. And they have to blow the horns, it's the law. At least here it is. They don't do it to irritate homeowners. And there is definitely no schedule to when the trains run.

You know when the train is way down the track, and its going real slow, ya almost have to go, dont ya

There has been more updates and the car did NOT cause it.

But still looking at the pictures please stay back at railroad crossings. You don't need to pull all the way up to the gates.
