Trail's End worth the trip to FW?

I haven't been to Fort Wilderness since 2003, and that was just to watch the Hoop de doo. The last time I spent any time in FW was when we stayed there in the late 1970s when I was a kid. I have an ADR for lunch at Trail's End during my trip in less than 2 weeks, but now I'm having doubts due to the difficulty in getting there. I was planning on checking FW out and walking around the area and shops too. Do you think trip to FW is worth it?

I would say it depends on how much time you have. Its nice to walk around and I typically enjoy the food but if you have minimal park time, I'm not sure I would go out of my way

I enjoy it ! I like the food, atmosphere , walking around after dinner . I usually catch the camp fire sing along with chip n dale as well . It's really nice and relaxing - it's good for a low key non park day or arrival day !

We have never gone to TE for lunch, but we have enjoyed the dinner buffet many times, and I highly recommend it if time allows. I think the first serving is a 4:30. We usually get there early to visit the horses, and the general store.

We tried to do a walk-up dinner once but they were booked. Enjoyed the carry-out menu though. I wouldn't attempt at lunch time. Transportation is a pain at FW. Maybe it would work if you had good luck with the boats.

I have heard that lunch isn't nearly as good as dinner and breakfast.

I agree with a PP, depends how much time you have. We really love TE- we do breakfast and dinner there at least once, if not twice, every trip. To me it's worth the trip over. We usually relax on the rocking chairs after stuffing our faces at the buffet ;)

Thanks for the advice. I was thinking lunch, because I could take the boat over from MK before going back to the resort for a mid-day break. But I could always do dinner after my mid-day break instead. I'm staying at the Dolphin, so is the best way to take the bus to MK and then the boat to FW?

Yes, I think so. We love Trails End dinner buffet, and also seeing the horses over there. They are gorgeous. :)

We really enjoyed the lunch - not too expensive, good food, and service was lovely even though we were at the very end of lunch service. I will say that the food wasn't extraordinary or anything, but it was tasty and the portions were generous for our dishes (catfish and chicken fried steak I think).

If you really want to make the most of the park time it might not be totally worth the trip, but we enjoyed looking around a resort we really never see.

Trails End is very good and worth the trip. We didn't find riding the boat hard to do at all, in fact we quite enjoyed it. We also enjoyed taking the wagon ride around Ft. Wilderness.

If you're going to be at MK that day and will be using it as a break, I think it's worth the trip. I don't think I'd hop there from another park just for that though. We did dinner there last trip and didn't find it to be too out of the way or difficult to get to. It was smaller than I was anticipating - both the seating and the buffet, but the food was good and thought the selections were plenty. Also the best dessert section I've seen! Not sure how much lunch and dinner compare though.

I like it. Depending on how many days or free time you have it's worth it. We have a morning planned there for breakfast and walking around, but we also have three no park days with time to do stuff like that.

Which would be the better way to get to FW to eat at TE when coming from our resort (POR)? Go to MK and go by boat or by bus to FW?

Boat; there is no bus. The boat drops you off right at the dock a few hundred yards from pioneer hall.

I loved trails end for dinner! BUT, while staying at the Poly, I have twice cancelled dinners at the Fort, because it just seemed like a pain to get over there. It is a lovely trip, but can take a while when you have to combine the two transportation options. We had a sick diner and didn't want to drag ourselves over. If I was staying at WL or FW, even Contemporary, I would put it on my must do list. Staying near Epcot, I would likely pick somewhere closer.

I thought lunch was worth the trip & a nice break from MK. I got the chicken & waffles which I really enjoyed & I like the resort.

DH and I love the breakfast and dinner buffets at TE. During the day,we have watched the ponies play in their corral and love pushing the button in the stable that plays the calliope.
When you make dinner reservations, you should also make a reservation for a night time carriage ride. It's a lovely way to spend an evening. The boat ride back and forth from MK is short but pleasant. It's a nice way to arrive.
