I'm thinking of trying the buffet at TE for something different, and then taking in the campfire etc that is there. My question is transportation...if we are at MK and take the boat over, and it closes at 8, how would we get back to our hotel? Would the boat take us back there and then we could either get our car or catch a bus?

THanks!

What hotel are you staying at?

Probably the best plan is to park at / or use the TTC (ticket transportation center). I'm pretty sure you have to park at the TTC if you drive to MK anyway. You can then take the monorail to the MK or the Contemporary. There are separate boats going from the MK and Contemporary to FW and Wilderness Lodge.

Even after the MK closes, you can take a boat from FW to the Contemporary (not the MK) which runs very late into the night. Then catch the monorail from the Contemp back to the TTC. You can catch a bus from the TTC to your resort, or if you parked there, drive back from the TTC.

I'm pretty sure there are no buses from the TTC to resorts.

To the OP if you are on site, you could the boat from the MK to FW. At the end of the night take a bus from FW to any open park or DTD and then take a bus back to your resort.

If you drive you would have to park at the TTC to get to MK anyway, so just go back to your car after the MK and drive to FW. You would then have to park at the front of the campground and take a short internal bus to get to Trails End and then another to get to the campfire area. After every thing go back to your car and drive back to the resort.

From Fort Wilderness take the bus to DTD and then transfer to your hotel bus. We have found this to be the easiest way to travel at night in WDW. We always make late dinner reservations and have found the best way to travel from resort to resort is to use DTD as our transfer station. You automatically know that DTD will be open late every night.

Fort Wilderness provides buses directly back to resorts after the Hoop-De-Doo. Ask the boat CM about it and then just plan to be at the Settlement Bus stop at the correct time. Usually those buses "share" so you may not get a direct ride back, but it will still be quicker than the bus back to the Outpost, then to DTD, then back to your resort.

Trail's End is a must-do for us. Great price and delicious food!

If you want to drive, there is a parking lot at the front of the Fort for visitors. You can park there, then take the internal bus to the Settlement Area, where Trail's End is located.

I am pretty sure that FW has a bus that goes directly to the TTC. I remember having to use that back in 2003 to get to Epcot or MK.

I think none of the resorts have buses that go to the TTC anymore.

I remember in 1999 having to go to the TTC to get to places like DTD and the water parks. Made for a long trip, but I also remember that there wasn't the same kind of internal bus system.

All buses to outside places, like the parks looped through the campground so you didn't have to take an internal bus first and then transfer to get to a park like now.

There were two internal bus loops Chip and Dale that looped in opposite directions.

The only Walt Disney World transportation buses that go to the TTC are the ones for Hollywood Studios and the Animal Kingdom, so they don't have any which go to Fort Wilderness or any other WDW Resort.

they'll have busses back to the resorts after the hoop de doo

eta sometimes they have a bus from ft. wilderness to ttc, but don't count on it, I haven't seen it always. It is from the "back" bus stop down near the ponies. I don't know any rhyme or reason to it, and they may not have it all anymore/at a given time.

where do we catch the buses after hoop de doo back to our resort? Also- what if we arent eating at the hoop de doo- are we still allowed to use the buses?

what time do they run? Thanks!!!

The bus depot is in clear site of the HDDR so you will find it without a problem...Of course you can use the buses...They do not care why you are at a resort...

As far as the OP question, I am all for taking a CAB!!!!!! It is so easy and very cheap...They can be as little as $10-$15...You are saving already if you are using DT for your trip, so I think the extra money for a cab is well worth the ease...We will use cabs for very early breakfast to resorts as well as evening trips...JMO ;)
