Who has had lunch here recently since it no longer is a buffet and how was it? I need a place to enjoy on my MK day, tired of CP and not really excited about the veg option at Liberty Tree. We are having dinner at Captain Cook's. Anyway, Seems like Trails End has good options for the vegetarian and fish/foul eaters in my family. How is travel from MK?

Trail's End for Lunch? . . .
1) No.
2) No.
3) No.
4) Breakfast and dinner are very, very good.
5) The ala carte lunch is well below average.
6) Avoid it.

We went to it the first month that it changed over. We were one of only 2 tables there.

We loved that it was quiet and we got personal attention.

We had the soup of the day and the chili apps. I don't remember what the soup was but it was very good. I don't eat red meat so i didn't try the chili but i was told it had a lil kick to it. I think it's the same from the buffet.

We then had the fried chicken and waffles. I'd heard of this as a southern thing but had never tried it. It was DELICIOUS! If it's one thing trail's end does is good fried chicken (it's from the same kitchen that does the hoop dee doo review food).
The waffle was a big belgian fluffy waffle.
We also had the shrimp and andouie sausage over grits. Was a ton of food and shrimp. Had a pretty nice bite to it. It was also very hot and freshly made.

For dessert we had the smore and the sticky bun sundae
These were cute and ok. The sticky buns are the ones from the buffet and layered in a jelly jar with ice cream and caramel....so pretty darn good.
The smore was fine but the other was a lil better.

The manager came out and asked if we had any comments or suggestions for the new menu and spent a lot of time asking us since we were willing to discuss it. I told them that since they make a ton of cornbread that they should include a piece with the shrimp and grits to balance out the kick of the spice.
I also said that the smores needed a better toast on the marshmallows on top so they would be all melty and goey. He said that they actually had new lil torches ordered just for that purpose of fixing the marshmallow issue.

We really enjoyed it and the quiet.
We also really enjoy the buffet as well though. The buffet is good but can be very hectic and crowded at dinner. If you are paying out of pocket is is one of the best values around though.

I haven't tried it because I'm still bitter about the change.

Haven't tried it, but have you looked at the menu for Contempo Cafe, the CS location at CR? An easy monorail ride from MK. They have several good salads that are tossed to order, not pre-made. And I believe DH once had the Mahi-Mahi burger & enjoyed it. I know DD had a pasta, but I suspect those are only for dinnertime.

Wow, thanks for the responses! The chicken and waffles sound great. I think my husband would love them. We are going to be spending the day from open to close at MK so I think getting out would be a good idea. I will look at the Contempo's menu as well. The wave seems meh, Kona's lunch menu seems limited ad does GF's. Tony's doesn't really appeal to me.
