Anyone have any comments on this restaurant - specifically for dinner? We'll be arrive on a Saturday afternoon and hoping to stay at the WL so this would be close by. Contemplating making reservations at the Hoop-Dee-Doo but it's so expensive. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Also - it's my hubby's 40th that day.

Trail's End is a buffet and does not take PS. IMO, it is the best value at WDW for meals. Especially for families. It's a short walk from the Ft. Wilderness marina which you can travel to by boat from WL. Right next door is Crockett's Tavern with a porch with rocking chairs you can watch the world go by. In the evening (times vary with time of year), you can watch the Electrical Water Parade go by. Just ask any Guest Services CM or your server for the schedule.

Ft. Wilderness also has horse-drawn carriage rides in the evenings from 6pm to 10pm. The petting zoo and horse stables are nearby. So, even if there's a wait to eat, there's plenty to see and do until then.

Now, the Hoop-Dee-Doo is expensive BUT, if you can fit it into your budget, I feel it's worth the price.

For a birthday celebration, the Whispering Canyon at WL might be fun!

Happy Planning!

We were going to book Hoop De Doo but changed our minds and booked Mickey's Backyard BBQ. Not quite as expensive and has more food to my dd's liking. Besides, she can move about and dance if she wants. We'll also be going to the Trailsend Buffeteria. But our first night meal is always Chef Mickey's. Gotta love traditions. Can't wait to use the boat to Fort Wilderness and to MK.

We opted out of the Hoop De Doo Revue because of the price. I had seen it years ago, and my guys - DH and DS (14) would rather do anything than sit through a musical program...!!

At any rate, I have heard that they serve the same menu items at TrailsEnd Buffeteria and that it's a great value. Since we'll be staying at FW Campground, I'm sure we'll take advantage of the rave reviews.

Trail's End is a very casual, laidback dining experience with excellent food for a very reasonable price. I think you'd really enjoy it for a nice relaxing meal.

Hope your hubby has a wonderful 40th when the day comes! :jester:

I love Trail's End as much as anyone but for hubby's 40th are you sure you don't want to go somewhere more festive?? I agree that just a boat ride away the staff at Whispering Canyon would make a hysterical occasion out of his birthday if given the opportunity. (If he's the quiet, private type he might not like a lot of fuss.)

Haven't been for dinner, but we had breakfast there twice last week when we stayed at the WL, and it was, as posted above, the best deal on Disney property. It is very, very casual, and I too think that may not be quite the spot for birthday celebration. Nothing at all wrong with the place, but I know I myself might prefer something else.

It is a very short boat ride from the WL and then a very short walk from marina to Trail's End.

It was a treat for us to see the peacocks strolling on the roof of the tavern as we were leaving to head for the boat. I gather this is a daily occurrence.

If you haven't tried Ohana at the Polynesian, it was the highlight of our trip last week, as far as dining was concerned. We had a great table at the window and saw the fireworks go off at MK. Sound is piped in and you feel as if you are right there, just minus the elbow to elbow people. Steak, shrimp, turkey and pork are served there. It is a very festive restaurant.

If you decide on Trail's End, you will enjoy your meal. Good luck with your decision.

Since MK closes so early this month, we plan to try Trails End one evening and then check out the campfire event and maybe the movie too. It's nice to read so many good reviews of the buffeteria. :)
