We're scheduled to land at LAX on Friday, June 20 at 4.38 pm. By the time we've picked up luggage and the rented car, I figure we'll be hitting the roads sometime around 5.30 - 6.00 pm. Are we likely to sit in traffic for a while at this time of day?? Given that we've got two kids (aged 8 and 5), d'you think it might be prudent to feed them at the airport so we don't have to start our vacation by listening to "I'm SOOOOOO hungry" all the way to the hotel!!!

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Yes, you will definitely hit rush hour traffic but you would be able to use carpool lanes almost all the way to DL and that will help immensely. Take the 105 east to the 605 south to the 91 east to the 5 south to the DL exit. It shouldn't take more than an hour by using carpool lanes.

If your kids are starving do feed them at the airport (however the choices at LAX are pretty poor in some terminals).

Good luck! :)

yeah, what Michelle said. ;)

I personally would pack a lunch/dinner for the kids. We were in LAX and price at McDonalds for the two cheeseburger meal (regular sized) was 5.75.

I was glad we packed a few pb&J's for the trip. I used a sandwich keeper from Tupperware. It's hard sided, the size of a sandwich bread. Worked great keeping the sandwich from being squashed in the back pack. Now I use it for my hubby's lunch. I took it to the parks everyday w/ a sandwich for my little ones. They don't eat much on vacation, too much excitement, but I can always get them to eat PB&J. :)

<font color=navy>Even with using the carpool lanes, traffic is going to be very busy, so I agree on getting the kids something to eat before you leave. When you leave the airport, head towards Sepulveda south/Freeway 105 east. You'll want to get on the 105 east - carpool lane - until it ends at the 605 - go south, & stay on the right-hand side because the 91 East will be right there - take 91 east - stay in carpool lane, and take the carpool lane to the 5 south - stay in carpool lane until you get to Disneyland Drive. You'll save a lot of time that way.

If you want to get a bite to eat before you leave, & are looking for something inexpensive, go on Sepulveda south for a couple of miles & you'll hit a Sizzler, Pollo Loco, Subway, Stick N Stein, Burger King, etc.

There are also some fast foods near the car rentals - In N Out, Taco Bell, McDonalds, etc.

(I work about 5 mins from LAX terminal)
