Too crazy? Or not too bad?

Also, how do the car rental places move at LAX? Slow, like most places? Or pretty decent?

There really is no telling about the traffic. It could be a breeze, could be a nightmare (so get something to eat and drink, and make your bathroom stop beforehand). If you keep your expectations low, you might be pleasantly surprised! Depends on the time of year, too. Your best bet would be to drive between 10 AM-3 PM or after about 8 PM. If you are comfortable with making last minute changes to your route, it is worth listening to the local traffic reports in case of big problems; the main stations for that are KFWB 980 and KNX 1070.

also I would have to imagine that the 105 Freeway has changed a lot of that. If you took the 105 East to the 605 North to the 5 South you should get there in no time, but since I left Cally a long time ago I would just pose this question to a current resident... would that be that much faster or is the 105 as crowded as the rest of the freeways?

Since the 105 has carpool lanes it's a big improvement over other freeways, at least up until it ends and you need to transition to the 605. I'll admit I've never tried 605 North to the 5 South - I always go 605 South to 91 East to the 5 South. Can't say which is better since I've only taken the one route. BTW, the 5 has a carpool lane which starts at the 91 transition, and you can exit the 5 at Disneyland Drive without leaving the carpool lane. Of course that works for either route. :D

<font color=navy>It's much faster to go 105 to the 605-S to the 91-E. If you go 605-N to the 5-S you'll be going the opposite way from Disneyland.

Carpool lane on 105, stay on the right on the 605 because the next exit or two is the 91. Get in the carpool lane on the 91 & stay there. Transition from 91 carpool lane to 5-S carpool lane and stay there. From the carpool lane there is an exit to Disneyland Drive. Turn left, and either go to the theme parks, Downtown Disney, or the Disneyland Resort hotels.

I did it last week and it was fine. If you are used to driving in city traffic (e.g. Boston, NYC, SF, CHI) it won't even throw you.

We were in the carpool lane a few weeks ago, during morning rush hour. Even our driver said it was nuts, and radioed back to tell others to use a different route.

Travel time LAX - Disneyland, non-rush hour was about 1/2 hour. Going the other way in rush hour, a full hour plus.
