Traditions for Your Family at WDW

We get the boys hair cut at the Harmony barbershop. It is a fun tradition and the gel and pixie dust is cute!

This will be our first trip with our granddaughters ( 26 months and 18 months).
Of course daughters and their husband will also be with us. We have been as a family with our girls beforebut this will be our first vacation as a family with the sons-in-laws. I tols everyone they must ride Dumdo. We always made the daughters do it and so the story continues.

We always have to hit Beaches n Cream at least once during our trips, my DS and I have a spot we take pics at Epcot just outside the Land with Epcot Ball in the background (though the trees are now getting too big to see the ball clearly) I have 2 pregnancy pics there, and we've been doing it ever since. DH and DS get haircuts at Harmony Barbers almost every trip. We have a girls' tradition (if we are traveling with extended family and/or friends) to have Tea at the Garden View Terrace at GF. We also have a pretty long standing tradition of eating at Teppanyaki (now Teppan Edo) in Japan and having a group shot taken there. Just some fun things that we feel bear repeating (along with many traditional snacks like Mickey Bars and Dolewhips of course).

Have fun making your own traditions!!!

- We always let them help pick the resort.
- Eat lunch at least once at Biergarten.
- Eat a Mickey head ice cream bar at least every other day of trip.
- I keep little things secret from them. The last trip it was MNSSHP. This trip it's MVMCP. Also the resort change to the WL with a bunk bed room.
- Each person gets to pick a charm for my Disney charm bracelet, and the charms are only bought at WDW.
- As soon as our feet hit Disney soil, I inform the DS's that it is Mickey's rule that from the moment they step foot at WDW, they have to stop growing and will not grow up any while we are there. Any growing that should have been done during the time we were there, will be made up on the first night that we are home.
- The night before we leave we all pretend to sleep. Instead we all just lay in bed and play possum until the alarm goes off.

Lots of traditions seem to center around food! So here is ours, we always have one "Turkey Leg" meal while we are there. That started years ago with just me and DH. Now there are 4 of us, but since DS is still small, we get three turkey legs! We also take a picture of the kids eating them!

Per my DH, our new tradition is to make an early ADR at Chef Mickey's our first night, then head to MK for a few hours before getting to bed at a decent time. We've always been to Chef Mickey's, even when I went as a kid, so this works for me. And since we'll have DS (4.5 mo.) along for the first time, it will be a good way to ease into the vacation. Actually, my DH got his way again and we're going back for our first Chef Mickey's breakfast on our last day, too (there are only so many places I'll take the chance of going with an infant). ;)

For my two older kids, All Star Movies is becoming a tradition. We always head to say "Hi!" to Buzz and Woody before we leave for the parks after check-in. This will be our third trip with the kids, and we've stayed there each time. I'm not sure I want to continue this one, though - I'd like to try a nicer resort some day, LOL!

[Like many of the others we eat breakfast at Chef Mickeys. So much food to get a busy day started.:wizard:

A tradition I recently started is a gift basket before the trip w/ stuff they'll need/use on the trip.* we're going away a few times this year, and i've been shopping for months for clearance items and dollar store finds for all our vacations... even our upcoming January 09 disney trip (we also have an upcoming July 08 disney trip, but those baskets are done).* Just things like sunglasses, socks for winter trips, small toys for the hotel room, activities for the plane or car, pj's or bathingsuits (if they need them), pins to trade, etc.* I was going to do Tinkerbell gifts in the hotelroom each day, but I don't want to have to remember to put stuff out, and the kids are getting harder to hide stuff from anymore.** I also give the kids in the baskets a stuff animal to take on the trip (instead of them wanting to bring any from home).* Before the gift basket idea, they'd pick one in the airport or a gift store.* also something i've read on here... one day on the trip, for lunch or dinner, go to the bus stop at a park and take the first bus that comes for a resort you haven't been to yet, and go eat there and check out the resort for fun.* We love doing this!*

On the last day we go back to the MK and just ride Buzz for one last time.

When I went with DH before we were married :rolleyes1 we ate at Crystal Palace. I insisted 2 years ago when we were at WDW for our GG w/DH's family that we eat at CP (only DH, Me and DD).

Now we are going in Aug/Sept. and we have a lunch at guess where???...you got it CP!!!! So I am thinking that this qualifies as a tradition.

Also, we took DD6.5's picture in Pooh's little play area 2 years ago at the tree ringing the bell (doorbell I think) and I want to make sure we do that again on this trip too!!!

Picture of DD sitting w/Cinderella at CRT in her big comfy "Princess Chair" and family picture in front of fountain/Castle.

We always check in early and spend the day at DTD and shop. We also make sure our first dinner on vacation is at Chef Micky's followed by a trip on the monorail.

We always end our trip with the fireworks in MK. Sometimes we go back to MK just for that reason!

These are some of the best traditions yet. I imagine a lot more people will be doling out the "no growing up" speach from here on out. I hope you don't mind if I add it to our traditions list!! Tink might leave a note about it on the resort room door our first night;)

I forgot to mention that while we are at WDW EVERYTHING is magical. When one of the kids spills icecream on the outfit that I made especially for that day at that park to meet a certain princess, yup that's magical. My family will often witness a "wrinkle" in our vacation and turn to me and say "This is a magical moment, right?" I guess I've beat it into them:rotfl2:

we always have to ride Pirates at least a couple of times, i think our record is six or seven in one trip!

I love your last 2!!!!

My favorite Disney tradtion actually begins about 6 weeks before we leave - we watch a different Disney movie each night before our trip. But each year we have to start even earlier to get all of our Disney movies in before we go. Our family vacation is in 12 days so we only have 11 more to watch! My kids look forward to this tradition each year almost as much as I do!

Our little one will be 2 next month. She has been to WDW in 2007 and 2008. So we bought her pins for each year and plan on continuing that tradition. That way when she is old enough to trade pins, she has a good start! We will do the same for ds when he is born.

We also eat at crystal palace every trip and get a dole whip! Well, I do. My hubby hates pineapple!:scared1:

We always eat at Liberty Tree Tavern Character Dining. It is our absolute favorite place to meet and see Chip and Dale. Also, we ride about two rides faithfully over and over and over - they are Buzz Lightyear and Splash Mountain. We can't wait until we get to go again!:dance3:
