I would love, love, love to try one of the two Table Service Mexican choices. However, it seems like neither have what I would consider normal Mexican food like fajitas, tacos, nachos. Is that the case or can you get those items there or do you have to just do the quick service in Mexico to get those?

I can't speak for La Hacienda de San Angel, but what San Angel Inn serves is traditional Mexican food. Nachos and the like are more like Tex-Mex, and Americanized. If you're looking for tacos, San Angel does have some on their menu:

Tacos de Carne - Grilled New York strip on flour tortillas, topped with chipotle pepper sauce, scallions and avocado, served with rice and refried black beans - $21.95

I've never eaten at La Hacienda, so don't know how good the food is, but found this on their menu:

Tacos de Camarones - Fried shrimp, Chipotle-lime aioli, cabbage, lime and salsa verde, all served over flour tortillas - $25.50

Taquiza - Taco sampler featuring grilled chicken with green tomatillo sauce, grilled steak with roasted Chipotle sauce and rajas poblanos, pork Chilorio served with queso fresco, and battered fish served with a Mayo-Chipotle sauce topped with cabbage - $25.50

And this is why the restaurants in Mexico get trashed. The restaurants do have "normal" Mexican food. They don't have Texmex or the stuff we often try to pass off as Mexican (Like the burrito bowl I just had for lunch!)

La Hacienda is my favorite TS at WDW. That Parrillada del Mar platter is phenomenal. It is like a really good version of the fajita platter that our local Mexican place serves: grilled seafood, grilled veggies, chips & salsa, beans, and the best corn I've ever had. I think that they have shrimp tacos there since you mentioned tacos specifically.

The only place places I've ever had real Mexican cooking are at restaurants in Los Angeles and 1 Mexican restaurant here in Maryland owned by a Mexican. The entrees are very good, the tacos/burritos I can duplicate at home. I won't bother with the places in Epcot. Too bland.

The Counter Service has some TexMex like you are looking for, I do believe -

Tacos de Barbacoa - seasoned beef, homemade corn tortilla, Mexican rice, refried black beans and red salsa $12.75

Tacos de Pollo - seasoned chicken served on homemade corn tortillas, Mexican rice, refried black beans and red salsa $11.95

Tacos de Pescado - Seasoned fried fish, homemade corn torillas, Mexican rice, refried black beans, slaw and Habanero aioli $12.25

I will say - give the Mexican food a chance in the restaurants. "Real" stuff is so much better (as much as I love street tacos!! YUM!)

Wow! That sounds amazing!

San Angel Inn is a lot closer to authentic than Tex Mex that you are speaking of. Give it a chance. I do know they serve enchiladas at lunch but its not Tex Mex so much as the usual stuff.

Absolutely agree. We are going back again in July specifically for that (and a margarita that I cannot stop dreaming about...). SO good!

Ate the sampler above last September and it was pretty good. The margaritas were better though :)

Fajitas, Tacos, Nachos, Burritos, Chimichangas etc. are not normal Mexican food. They are Americanized versions resembling Sonoran Mexican food. Further south in Mexico the food varies considerably, much of which is not what we see so much of in the USA. I find San Angel Inn and La Hacienda much more authentic to whats found south of the border. I do believe the counter service take out canteen in Epcot/Mexico has tacos.

Well I am thinking my children are old enough that they may actually take to the more authentic versions of the traditional Mexican that they know so I am going to replace my crystal palace with San angel inn. Worse case scenerio, they resort to a kids meal there or simply wait and eat somewhere else. I'm excited to try it and know my husband and I will for sure love it. Plus the atmosphere cannot be beat! Thanks for the help as always disers!

If you want the common Mexican Tex Mex you are used to, you will be disappointed.
