I was looking for a little information on how to trade timeshare time with a DVC member. I looked, but my computer is slow and it was taking too long. Sorry if it's been mentioned earlier.
My stepmother owns a timeshare in Mexico, and we would love to spend it in Disney. I don't know exactly what to do to get the ball rolling or who to talk to. She was looking in to getting a place outside of Disney, but I refuse to stay anywhere but Disney. I would love to stay at the Wilderness Lodge Villas or maybe the Boardwalk Villas. They look really fun and a great place to stay. What do I do? It'll be sometime between December 8-21, somewhere in that timeline. There will probably be 4 adults going, not sure yet. Please help me! I'm so exited to think that I will be staying at one of the "better" resorts. I've stayed at the Pop, and thought that it was great. Plus we'll probably get the dining plan. Thanks!

There are many options. If your step mother owns an II resort and is a member of II, she could try to trade. Jan, early Feb, May, Sept, Oct and early Dec are the only realistic times to expect success, even then in a studio or 1 BR most likely. DVC does not trade with RCI. She could also try for a direct exchange but depending on what and when she owns, it's unlikely she'll get back an equal size and full week. For example, she might get a studio for a 2 BR or 5 days excluding weekends in return for her 7.

What resort and week does she own?

If you want to do a direct trade (your timeshare for DVC) through an owner to owner agreement, you can post a request to trade here on the DVC Rent/Trade Board

DVC resorts also trade through a company called Interval International, if your Mexico timeshare trades through Interval Internaional as well, you'll need to contact your timeshare for info.

If you post in the rent rad board, be as specific as possible about the resort you own...location, name, tpe of accomodation...if it is a specific week or a floating week you can reserve, etc. These boards, nor Disney, involve themselves in these private owner to owner trades...the details and any contract is between you and the other owner.

Ok.... she has 3 timeshares. 2 of them are in Puerto Vallarta(sp?), Mexico and one in Gatlinburg, TN. They are floating, one week, 1 bedroom condos and a chalet. Mayan Resort and Playa Del Sol are in Mexico. I think they are through RCI. But, I think the one in Gatlinburg is through Interval International. I'll have to get more information from her. She lives 2 1/2 hours away and we were talking through my dad who didn't know what the heck was going. Thanks so much, I would have never known and probably been stuck off property.
If it does come down to an owner to owner trade, what do we do? I'm new to this timeshare stuff, and have no clue as to what I'm doing! Thanks again. I really do appreciate your help and would love any more info that you could give me. I hope that I have given you enough of my info to help.

For Interval International (II) trades into DVC you would follow the guidelines of YOUR timeshare for requesting the trade, not DVCs. It depends upon how her timeshare works...whether they (her timeshare) place the trade request with II or if your Mom places it with II directly through some sort of website. DVC will not be involved at all, except to confirm the trade with II. If you are lucky and get an II trade into DVC there is a resort fee that you must pay to Disney when you check-in...I think it is $95.

I looked on the II website last night. I'm so excited! I just hope that she can get the dates we need now, and that it is II! Thanks so much for your help. I would have never known that we could trade through II.

If it's II I'd say you have a chance for the first week in Dec for a studio or 1 BR only. That is a little tougher time than Sept & Jan. If it's II she needs to put in an ongoing request and be prepared to wait until next fall to know for sure what happens. She does need to get in request in now for 2006.

For a direct exchange, post on the Rent/Trade board as Chuck suggested. But be prepared to accept much less than what she is giving up in unit size and number of days. She might have to accept 5 nights avoiding weekends in a studio in return for her 2 BR to even get any interest. She'd be better trading if she can or renting out here weeks and using the proceeds to rent DVC. This is one of the problems with timeshare exchanging. Those who have the top options keep them or rent them as a rule. Those with mid level week/resorts have great difficulty finding the top choices during peak seasons.
