Trading Spaces Home Free last night - anyone?

I heard that too about Vern going over the $1,000 budget and "cheating"---I may have been the one who posted that. Doug was at a home and garden show in Texas and a lady asked "where's Vern?" He explained Vern was let go from the show cause he was cheating with the budget and it wasn't fair to the other designers.

You know, lately Hildi has been much more "hit" for me than "miss." And I thought she was quite helpful with the Lt. Blue team for the first go around.

I missed Extreme Makeover----well most of it. It and Trading Spaces Home Free are on at the same time and I don't have a VCR or TiVo so I can't record one while watching the other.....I can't wait til DVD records (and is affordable!!) I flipped a few times and saw how they had to cut the dining room table- ouch!

Ah. So you post over there. Do you get the feeiling there are a lot of folks on that board that are pretty "new" at this message board thing? Glad to know the connection. I haven't posted over there. Not sure I want to get into all of the "Get rid of Paige" stuff. Mostly I like reading posts from home owners that come share their experiences.

Here in Indiana Extreme Makeover runs after Trading Spaces. One of the few advantages of never changing to Daylight savings time.

If you read the bios on the couple it talks about the husband on the blue team has done sculpting or Rain Forest Cafe on their trees & animatronics along with other sculpting work. The wife is also an artistic person. The room and their design reflected their abilities and I do think it helped them. I think they handled the challenges better. At least the tried to make the 2 chairs look alike and did a good job. I wasn't impressed with the candle holders but it was a good idea for the red team. I like the personalities of both teams and probably the red team more so it will be a interesting week.

I voted for the blue team because I thought they played the game best but that might not be enough.

** As to Vern

I was at the home show in TX, Doug did not say that Vern was let go just that he was no longer with the show and that he wasn't always honest on his receipts.

I've read other places and even on Vern's site that this isn't true so sounds like there is still a question on all of that. That he & Doug don't get along is pretty obvious though.

I'm not sure Vern would do well with these shows, part of how he gets good deals is buying things and sitting on it until he has the right room. He wouldn't have that option here. He also might not do too well with not being in charge.

One thing Doug mentioned at the show was that he trys to do most of his shopping locally so that he can duplicate what you really can do for $1000 - even without a stash of great stuff.

Oh no, I posted that here on the DIS. I have tried reading the TS boards and it drives me crazy. Everyone is SO negative! I want to say, "I thought you would post here cause you were a FAN of the show!?!?!?" Love Paige, love almost everything about TS...a few designers I don't care for, but I don't HATE them....And I read that original info about Doug saying that about Vern here on the DIS too, about 4-5 months ago I think...

We are in a constant state of Home Improvement. Though we have to finish a project before we go on to the next and preferably in the same weekend....we usually have one project right after the other. So we just eat up most of the home improvement/design shows. They're great fun and sure beat stale old network television and depressing newscasts.

This was the hardest vote for me. I LIKE the red team, but I also thought the blue were much more creative and handled the challenges better.

I've liked the 'easy' way of conquering challenges before (Angel with his pink fabric 'sausage'), but what the red team did, didn't sit right with me. Now, if they had put the broken glasses/sand in some very nice (and $$) matching crystal vases/bowls - that would have been wonderful. The red team could have met the $2000 challenge. The blue owners could have thrown away the broken glass/sand and still had something decorative in their room.

I also felt the red were at a big disadvantage with Laura as their designer. Frank was MUCH more supportive in their first round.

Not to be a nit-picker, but the red team had LaurIE the first time around....not Frank. And Laurie REALLY helped them pull a fab room together the first time. I LIKE the red team too, but their room just didn't do anything for me this time...

The Red team had Laurie Day this time around. She was less than helpful to them I thought.

Oh, you're right! I was thinking about Frank and the Yellow team in the first round - IF I'm remembering correctly now. Anyway, I just remember thinking, at the time, about how supportive Frank was being. None of this - That is NOTHING I would have bought - being said by the designer.

I was really disappointed with the red team because I really liked them before. But I agreed that it felt like they really cheated on the shopping challenge. Their room was nice (I liked it a lot better once they mentioned that it was inspired by artwork in the kitchen), but I liked the blue team's room much better. That tree thing came out really cool - I was really surprised, as I figured it would be cheesy.

The final round is going to be a tough vote - I love the yellow team (they are sooo cute and Angel's use of the pink polka dot fabric is the highlight of the series, as far as I'm concerned) and I really like the creativity and teamwork of the blue team (I guess I'm assuming they'll win :)). I think they both deserve to be in the finals.

I wonder how much they'll get to spend in the final round????
