Not sure this is the correct place to post this, but you all have the most info..so if not, please move it, Mod.Thanks!
Anyway, I have had several very bad, no good mess ups using Interval International and DVC. But I curently have a search in for any time from May to Aug and week before Christmas, don't laugh at me!
And my question is this:
The only time I have seen places at DVC open up in II was around the first of a month... so is it my imagination or is this because of the month/year use thing?
An example was the that on Jan 2-5 of this year there were at least 5-7 weeks I could have booked into WDW. The earliest was April, 2 weeks in May, 1 in Aug, 2 in Sept and 1 in Oct. I did book into May 26-June 3, but the II peoples computer messed it up and even thought we had a confirmed res. email we lose the res. Very long and depressing story... However we ended up with a free week off site....
I still want an on site stay... and DVC ownership is out of the question right now...
So I am wondering if because of the way DVC is structured will/ might there be an opening in a few days.. or around the first of any upcoming Month. Because that is when the 11 month window is?
Not sure I made as much sence as I was hoping to... but you all are bright enought to figure it out!
So Thanks for any info on this.. and of course, I will keep trying to get in... after all Magic is what Disney is all about!

I'm not sure, but it would seem to me that listings would appear when folks from DVC have done a trade out through II. I suspect you might be onto something about use year though! Folks are probably doing a fair amound of their transactions at the begining of the month in their 11 month window. The only problem with that theory, is that we can search II up to 2 years ahead, so not sure why the 11 month window would make a difference unless it was people depositing into II to keep from losing points. That's really the only reason I can see for that scenario.

BTW, I just wanted to add that you might have better luck doing a direct trade if you own somewhere that might be of equal value to DVC. Is your timshare on the DVC list (if you know)?

Wow! I have no idea! Didn't even know DVC had an exchange list... where would I find out? That is a wonderfull idea, and I had thought about a direct trade, but had no idea how to go about it! You had a great idea, thanks so much!
So now new ?question, folks! Where will I find out if my timeshare company is on the list, and if it is how do/would I go about trading?
Love you guys! I have new hope now... and it has been such a blah week or so lately...

Units show up all the time, not just the first of the month. There have been quite a number of deposits in the last week or two for Sept, Oct and early to mid Dec. I think DVC just deposits as they have the reservations but do so in mini groups, a smart choice IMO. There tend to be more availability in the early AM. So if you could get up every AM at 5-6 and search, your chances of success would be much better for short notice exchanges. It's always better to have an ongoing search though. The earliest DVC would deposit a week would be 11 months minus a week.

Did you ever figure out why you have the same problem two times. It's hard to believe you're just that unlucky so I've got to believe it's something in the way your company interacts with II, and not just II itself, in spite of your previous information.

Hey Dean.
No idea why we lost the 2 different ress. But I have had a run of bad luck with this!
I know you have said you think it is my timeshare prob. But both times I have had II admit they screwed up. This was from II people, not Sunterra.
However, Sunterra Cust reps have told me that they have had several dozen complaints and problems with II in the last year. Since I have rarely talked to the same cust rep at Sunterra,( but have managed to get 4 of them more then once.), I don't know what they problem is between the 2 companies.
And I have usually talked to regular worker bees, not suprevisers... only got to 2 supers. I have not gotten the same story from each and everyone, but close enought to feel that it isn't a "Corporate Line" thing.
One of the Sun reps did say that she had personall started to record all transactions with II as she had made 2 booking that went into II computers ok, and then somewhere down line got messed up. That was a good thing as the 2 res I made the Sun cust rep also had done the same thing. Voice, and computer auto copies of what we were booking... so II had to admit wrong.
At least I have some good luck in other areas! It just seems to be in getting into WDW/DVC with an exchange.
And it is funny that there have been units deposited as you posted. We have a search in for all of May to Aug and Dec and NOTHING has been showing up.

Is it to strange to think that some how II has a thing against Sunterra Corp? I mean, even when I have been going on line to look for some thing in II, nada has shown up. And I am calling and checking online up to 3 times a day!
I know this sounds like I'm cracy, but? Honestly!

I do keep telling my DH that it is "SIGN" from ? that we NEED to buy DVC...
hasn't worked yet! Humor is a good thing, I'm thinkin' !

And thanks, Dean for all your advice/info and stuff.

So you have to go through Sunterra who then goes through II?

My brother just traded into a DVC one bedroom last Thursday night for a reservation the next day :teeth: So that was very spur of the moment. He has a Mexico timeshare that trades through II. But he did the search himself on the II website and grabbed it when it came up. (I think he got lucky and grabbed a cancellation).

It sounds like with Sunterra that you can't grab something on II when you see it, right? Like you have to go through Sunterra and then II? Maybe that's what's wrong. Is there too much of a time lapse or something and the DVC inventory dissappears before it can be confirmed? Just guessing here.

I hope you're able to grab one some time. Good luck.

No, we can go direct through II and book into anyplace we want. How ever, I have tried to do that on the internet and by phone direct with II and it doesn't allways take. I got disconected one time, and another time both the II rep and I could see the res. I wanted but by the time we got ever thing entered in the II computer it was to late. I just got off the II site, and it shows nothing for DVC at all. I do have to sign in with the member number that II asigned to us throught Sunterra... what I mean is that I was given the number by II a Sunterra owner... so maybe that makes a difference?

I also have seen places open up on II and then called Sunterra and when the Sunterra rep went in from the SunCorp computers they did NOT see the same info.? what the hay? So I have then given the info to the Sun.rep and /or emailed the page to them and from that point the Sun Rep went and got there Superviser and they called the II place by phone and set up the res/booking for me. I thought it was strange that Sunterra could not get the info till I gave it to them, but it was ok in the end for that res.

I find this all very strange. I really don't know if it is just me, or if there is a problem between Sunterra and II or what!

I know a lot of people have never had a problem with either Sunterra or II, and I have not had problems with Sunterra getting into booking and stuff. But it has been a real bear with II so it must be a corporate policy or arangement between II and Sunterra. Wish I knew a way for that to be fixed!

Funny, I'm trying to trade into II! I think my chances are slim to none. Good luck!

What timeshare do you have? And are you trying to use it to get into WDW? or are you DVC?

If you have DVC you won't have a problem getting something you want! The demand for that is so high. So if you are trying to go someplace other then WDW you should not have to bad a time. I have not had a problem with II other then when trying to get in to a DVC/WDW property! But then again, we go only up and down the east coast for now.

If you own DVC I thought that there was a special exchange for trading points?

Boy this is so confusing! I remember reading a year or so ago about some folks that owned DVC, Marriot, Fairfield and Sunterra! At that time I thought they were either very rich, or very strange... or both. Now I am thinking that they may be cracy like a fox and are on to something. I am guessing that they own at several places they like to go to each year or 2 and only use the points from each system to go to that place and maybe never trade into or out of that timeshare ownship? Wow that must co$t a ton!

Anyway best of luck!

I'm convinced this is more than just bad luck. There is likely a procedural problem with how Sunterra works with II. Where the problem lies is only relevant to avoiding it for the future. IF you can go directly through II, why not just do that and avoid Sunterra altogether.

The second portion of your post suggests that you may have a trade power problem. II isn't first come first served, you must have enough trade power to get a unit. If you don't, they'll let it sit there and rot before they'll give it to you. So if you're seeing something online that Sunterra can't see AND you have an ongoing search for units that I'm seeing routinely in the past couple of months, there is a problem. My guess is you need to find the best trade week/resort and do a deposit first. But I'm not as versed on Sunterra as you need. I'll make the same suggestion I did previously, go to TUG and find people that know that system and get them to help you figure out what's going on and how to fix it as well as how to maximize that system in general.

BTW, there are units this very minute for Sept and Dec though less than there were earlier in the week.

I've had excellent luck trading into DVC with Fairfield. I've made many trades to DVC and each time I've always given up a green (off season) unit in exchange. Examples, a green studio for a DVC studio or a green 2BR for a 2BR. I will admit that I only travel to Disney off season so all of my trades have been for September, October or May.

You do have to check very very early in the morning though to get anything DVC.

I have started checking on the II site about 7 to 9 am each day and then either early afternoon or later at night... and so far I haven't found anything since I first posted here. I could just be missing it. I done it with a search for ANY date from a week from what ever thats day date is to the 19th of Dec, this year. Nada... And I have searched using the location of Orlando, and then using the resort codes, DSS, DWL etc... No luck.
But on the other hand I get to go down in a few days for a quick Anniversary trip and we have the week in May-June... off site, but better then no trip(s) at all!
Maybe the agreement between II and Sunterra has a set up that treats Sun. members different... so far no one knows if that is so and both II and Sun say it isn't so. But with Dean and others still finding stuff when I am now going on line and checking and am NOT finding ANY WDW resorts to trade into I have to wonder. I did a small search on TUG and didn't come up with a lot of answers, but then again , I might not be asking the correct questions...
Really I am not as dumb as this all makes me seem or feel.. .no matter how this all sounds! Honest!

There have been many weeks there over the past couple of months including one right now at OKW. If you haven't been seeing anything that makes me nervous for you. Either II is registering your account as an Orlando location which means you can't ever trade to DVC at WDW due to the regional block, you simply do not have enough trade power (which I doubt) or you are not entering the search correctly. Go to the II site and sign on. Click on exchange and then the radio button for "Resort name or code". The codes for all DVC are DVO, DSS, DVB, BCV, DWL, DVH, DBW. I'd then click on the calendars and put in the earliest date they allow and then a year out. That way you start to get a feel for when and what is available.

If this doesn't work for you, you may want to call me and let us run the info at the same time to compare. I find that when I search with different deposits and resorts I get different results.

I am trying to go on now to II. I have tried all the resort codes. I will call Sun tomorrow and ask about the block out! I think you might have something there... that would be very bad. I did check with Sun. today and yesterday, and 4 times last week and each time was told "Nothing available..." and I have a search in for May to Dec of this year now...
As I said I have also gone on to II and checked... If I can catch you on line I would like to try and see if you can find something as I am also looking... And then I will call Sunterra and ask WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot? is going on... Can I say that online... ? ( I tell the kids it means What The Fudge...and as they all know I love choclate... )
So tomorrow about 11 am-ish east coast time I will call. I have been trying to get on the II site and check for about an hour now, and it is not responding.. could be my DSL... or just busy, who knows!

PM me and I can give you my phone number. The only units are 3. OKW studio Feb and 1 BR for Sept. And a SSR studio for Sept. There are a number for fall for VB. That is about as low as it's been the last couple of months but there tend to be units in the am and less at night.
