Michele

How old are your kiddos? (With the answer being yes, they will probably want to and enjoy it!)

Ebay lots are often a way to get nice pins to trade for a decent cost.

My children are 3, 6, 8, 10 and 12. We have not been to Disney before and I don't wwant to get there and have to spend a fortune to have them do something. Are the pins they are advertising on disneydirect the trading pins? I think they were 50% off.
Thanks
michele

Yes you can trade the pins that are on sale at Disney Direct. Also check out E-Bay that is where I get most of mine (although I did buy 3 of the Stitch sets for trading on the DD sale). On E-Bay do a search for Disney Pin lots. I try and stay away from the Sedesma pins (some cast members will trade for them and some will not). You will Definitely want to get some before heading to WDW I belive the starting price at WDW is up to $6.95 per pin. I try and look for lots on E-Bay with prices averaging no more than $4.25 a pin usually way less.

Here is a link to a thread on the Collectors board about pin trading

That sale ended. You can get pins for $2.50 and up on ebay, if you buy in lots, which would be good in your case! The cheapest during the DD sale was about $4.50. I check evey few days, looking under Disney pin lot, and I do ok. Sedesma pins are not the quality of the regular Disney pins, and not currently dirt cheap. Mousepinsonline.com sells a lighter weight pin, and has specials. Lanyards can be purchased for $5 to $25 at the parks, or for $1 at Walmart.

Pin trading is a riot, and the boys and I (and my mom) truly enjoy it. It has become a highlight of our travels.

With the ages of your kids, they very well could get into pin trading in a big way. It is lots of fun for kids (and adults) and a great way for them to have special interaction with Cast Mambers etc. I would also suggest going the eBay route and getting a pin lot and unless you want to end up buying more in the parks for $7 and up, I would buy more than you think that you will want. When you buy lots on eBay you actually want 'ugly' pins or your kids will want those and not want to trade them, and then you will get stuck buy more pins to trade. Also do a search here for Energizer batteries and kellogg's cereal, there are pin deals with both of those products to get pins for free (with purchase). My DD7 absolutely LOVES pin trading and it is one of her favorite parts of our vacation.
