I was thinking of trading pins our next trip but didn't see many people or even CM's with pins during our trip at the beginning of the month. Has anyone had success with trading pins this month? I am thinking of getting pins from a trusted seller on ebay and mainly trading with CM's. Fun for 4 year old boys and an 8 year old girl or waste of money with all the fakes?

Hi Scrapbunny - Not all CM's wear a pin trading lanyard, but I've found more often than not, if you ask a CM they'll direct you to a CM that does. I've also asked ride operators, and (sometimes) they've had trading pins in their pockets. It pays to ask! Also don't forget about the pin trading posts/stores in DTD DCA and DL. Any pin store will trade with you. ;)

We have always had a lot of fun trading. Many of the CMs in the different shops have lanyards with pins to trade. I guess we look at it and say "if we end up with a fake, oh well. We let your DS7 pick the pins he wants to trade so if it is a pin he likes and it is fake, we keep it and do not turn around and trade it. Be careful buying on Ebay. Look at it this way, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. You will need to spend $2 or $3 dollars a pin or more and even then they still could be fake. I look over pins I am going to trade very carefully and if I even question if it is a fake, I don't trade it. The key word is "knowly" trade a fake. There are some really GOOD fakes out there.

Pin trading is such amazing fun! And each pin you get has a special memory! There are loads of CMs with pins but you do have to look for them sometimes.

My kids never seems to have a problem finding CM's to trade with. I don't know if you saw the email/post that the Disney Store has free shipping on Park Merch and they had a 7 pin set on sale for $10. I bought each of my kids a set for xmas to add to their tradeable pins vs their special ones that they have received. Code is: PARKFREE if you missed it.

AWESOME! I will look into getting some good pins and lanyards. I'm not sure I will be able to tell which pins are fake but I think we will have fun giving it a try :) How many pins do you start with? I'm thinking to start I need a bunch so we have enough my kids will want to trade but I also want to try to have real disney pins.

If you jump on it today while they still have them in stock and on sale and they still have the free shipping for park merchandise, the Disney Store has this set of 7 pins for a terrific $10 sale price. It would be a great way to get some starter pins for cheap that you know are real:

Whoops, somehow I completely missed your post before I posted the same thing!

my DS started pin trading about 8 years ago. He now has over 250 pins. Be prepared for them to get hooked! Now we don't stand in line to get autographs we stand and wait for him to pin trade.:)

I bought a lot of pins on ebay, bad bad idea as they are all fake :(

I bought 3 lanyard/pin sets from a different seller and one I believe is real but i'm not sure about the tinkerbell one and I'm sure the pins on the starwars one are not real all in all it was a pretty disapointing uneducated purchase and I would have been happier paying retail price and getting the real deal. I paid 17$ for each lanyard/pin set which isn't that much cheaper than disney store on sale

if you are buying on ebay just be careful

I and my wife love it as well as our kids. To get pins to trade in bulk go to
www.mousepinsonline.com We have used them many times and all pins were authentic. You'll pay $1.60 a pin. They have lots of 25,50,75, and 100. Trading pins is always fun and gives you the opportunity to talk and interact with the CM's. I have found that the CM's enjoy interacting with the resort guests and on frequent occassions we have received an unexpected treat from them.

I just got back from Disneyland and there are lots of CMs that wear lanyards. Mostly they seem to be in stores and line queues. Not everyone wears a lanyard, but many do and seem to enjoy trading. The green/blue-green lanyards are only for trading with children, red/black are for anyone.

As for fakes...they're out there and if you do trade with a CM, you just have to accept that there is a good chance you'll get a fake at some point. Some are various obvious, but others are really subtle (and hard to identify).

Thanks so much for all the posts! I am having fun looking at the disney store goodies, not just the pins :) Thanks for the mousepin link! That looks like the best deal for real pins

Use the thread linked in my signature for a great thread regarding eBay and Disney pins. :)

MPO has been reported to send scrapper pins at times, I myself have received them. Not many in the lot but some. Also to be noted, MPO will ship Pro Pins and while CM's will take them in trade many traders will not. I have but others are resistant.

I had not noticed. Never had a problem trading in past but will be more aware from now on. Thanks for the info, greatly appreciated

I have bought a few pins from the thread on pixiewings71 signature and they are all legit pins.

I think pixiewings71 meant that non-CM traders are resistant to taking the Pro Pins, not the CMs. There are usually a few "professional" traders outside of the Little Green Men Store (exit to Buzz Lightyear) and out at DTD. If you're new to trading, I would generally avoid them and certainly avoid any that ask you buy them a specific pin in exchange from one of theirs.

I figure we will mainly just be trading with CM's but looks like there is a lot more issues than I thought with pins :confused3 I thought as long as the pins had the disney logo on the back and the mickey ears back they were fine. Guess I'll just buy a few of the set on sale from the disney store for each of us.

I trade at DLR every single time I am there. We live locally and when I go to the Parks I always have a pocket full of pins for trading and/or have my lanyard.

You REALLY have to be careful on ebay. I bought a LOT of pins the other night via the pin set on disneystore.com that is mentioned above. You might want to pick some up from there.

Have fun with it, that's the idea. :goodvibes
