The post about cheap pins got me thinking....try not to laugh (at least not too hard)...but what the heck is the deal with the pins??
I've only been to WDW as an adult but before I had my kids. Next year will be the first with the kiddos. How does the whole pin thing work??? And what is the lanyard used for??
Again, I've seen the pins and been to disney but never quite understood what was going on!

You wear the lanyard around your neck. It's like the ID badge holders that hospital workers wear.
You put your pins on the lanyard.

When you wear the lanyard with your trading pins you can trade pins with other guests or cast members. All you have to do is walk up to a CM who is wearing a pin lanyard and ask if you may please look at their pins. If you see one you want you can trade one of your pins for one of theirs (as long as the CM doesn't already have it on their lanyard).

My 11 yo son loved pin trading last Dec. Many times CMs woud come right up to him and look at his pins then start up neat conversations with him. In October he's taking his pins again. It was great fun for him.

Hope that basically answers.

No!! Anyone from children to adults can pin trade. It's not just for children. Anyone of any age can pin trade. It's fun for everyone.

You don't HAVE to wear a lanyard. I've been pin trading with CM's from the very beginning and many of us just keep some traders in our pockets. By the end of the day, the lanyards can get pretty heavy.

I think I read somewhere that CMs wearing a certain color lanyard will only trade with kids. Can anybody tell me which color this is, and what is the upper age limit for kids to trade with these CMs?

Its a huge pain in the a** to have to haul around the lanyard and find a safe place before you get on a ride.

I am a grown, but not so mature, adult, I have no children, and I am addicted to these stupid pins.

CAUTION! It is easy to spend a fortune on them. So, unless you have an unlimited budget, here are a couple of suggestions... One, pick a "theme." I am a big Tigger fan, so I try to stick to those. Course when I bought all the ones available, I found another "theme." Then another, then another, then another!!!! AHHH! :crazy2:

I have heard from parents that they set guidelines such as letting your child buy one per day ir giving them a set amount of $ they carry & when they've spent it all that's it.

Just remember, pins are EVERYWHERE, and all stores do NOT carry the same pins. The biggest pin store is in DTD. Epcot has a good one up front, behind Spaceship Earth.

As far as the lanyard, that's up to you, but I agree, it can be a pain. I've seen people put them on hats & fanny packs. The biggest reason to display, besides showing off ;) is to let people know what you have to trade. The other reason to carry them around is so you have something to trade when you see one you want from someone else.

I usually don't have mine with me because most of the ones I have I intend to keep. So what I do is offer to buy something for the person I'm trading with, and let them pick it out. I've never had someone say no. People are usually very friendly.

There's a lot more to it, but I don't want to make your head spin before you even start. It really is a lot of fun & I hope this helps! :thewave:

I went to a pin trading expo show at Paradise Pier at DL last Feburary. Disney is great, but I have never seen so many wierd people in my entire life :rotfl2:
