Trading into DVC using II

My mom put in for two places for on property when we go on our WDW vacation. She's trading her Marriott Costa Mesa weeks. Usually whenever we want to go someplace, they get snatched up pretty quickly. We are going the first full week in November.

The people at Interval call sometimes even twice a day offering different, non-Disney properties to her. They said that it's hard to get a WDW place.

Are they being on the level with her? Is there anything that we can do to try to get into something on-site?

Thanks so much!

I think it is hard because II can only offer what DVC puts into their inventory and I suspect that is not a lot. I believe Dean had pretty good knowledge of the volume going through there so maybe he will join in.

As to an alternative, Marriott's Cypress Harbour is very Old Key West like and is an easy drive to any of the parks (WDW, SW, US). Another plus is that they are all dedicated two bedroom villas.

Good Luck! We tried for almost a year to get into DVC prior to buying in trading through II using my parents week that they have at Marriott's Beach Club in Myrtle Beach (I think that's the name) and never got in. We waited until 90 days prior to arrival before finally giving up and staying at Marriott's Grand Vista. BTW, the week we wanted was for the last week of October last year.

Oh, no! Actually, this may work out okay. My husband, daughter, and I wanted to stay on property but my mom offered to go through Interval. We have so much family going that we will need more space. I think that we'll probably end up having to rent points if we want to stay at a DVC property (and my parents and siblings and their families can stay at the Marriott). I can't convince my husband to just outright buy. I think he needs to experience it for himself.

Staying at Grande Vista benefited us because it was the first time we stayed off site in really nice accomodations. We were in one of the new buildings and the unit was beautiful. There was so much space for the 6 of us. We decided that a hotel room was no longer the way to go. We took my parents on the tour of DVC trying to get them to buy and we ended up buying. Oh well, there loss - our benefit :earsboy:

II can't give you what they don't have and they are likely not going to get much or anything in a 2 BR for that week. If you want on property, list all options, not just 2. OKW and SSR are more likely to be available. II calls because the counselor gets benefits if they get you to accept an exchange on the phone call plus they're trying to unload their excess inventory on you. But you'll have a much easier time getting Grande Vista or Cypress Harbour. If it were I, I'd put all DVC options on the list. Then add Marriott GV and possibly Cypress Harbour maybe about the 60 day mark.

I'm not sure which property you're referring to for Marriott. Is this one of the CA desert resorts? And what week was deposited?

It's actually the one in Newport. Costa Mesa, Newport, it's all about the same to me, but I'm geographically challenged in the extreme!

I'm not sure about the week. I don't know if they work like that because they are always talking about points. Anyhow, she has two requests in now and was hoping to put in for two more after she can put in for them in a few months. We put ALL Disney properties in the request, especially since we are asking for two units. We're slowly trying to accept that we won't all stay on-site. Even if they don't, DH and I are still thinking about doing so. I figure it will be years before we can go back and we want the whole experience.

Part of the reason I was asking was if they were lockoff's and you could use the two sides to get two 2 BR units at one of the Marriott's in Orlando. The chances of getting two units are dramatically slim and close to zero if looking for 2 BR units. Marriott owners can trade for reward points, like FF miles. Think of it like using DVC points to go to DC options.

We were prepared for not being in the same Disney resort but we were given the impression by another board that it wasn't too difficult for this trade. With it being 10 months out, I'm starting to get worried. We need to start thinking about airplane tickets. Thanks for the information. My mom is going to call Interval on Monday and talk to her person.

Do you think that she would have better luck if she traded in her Maui or Kuauii ones instead? Or is it just that Interval doesn't have the rooms available to give her so it really doesn't matter which one?

We had our whole family of 13 in Orlando over Thanksgiving last year. My family of 4 ended up renting DVC points and stayed at the BCV. The other families stayed at the Hilton Grand Vacation Club on International Drive (with HGVC points). We loved being on site, but their villas were HUGE and amazing.

We've stayed at Marriott's Newport Coast Villas twice, we love it. From what I see, your parents could probably rent their villa out and use the proceeds to rent villas in Orlando. This might be easier than waiting for an II trade? There seems to be a lot of inventory for rent in Orlando, and there are some really nice timeshares. I know that last year, I was looking at some 2 bedrooms for $700-800.

Good luck!

It depend on the week she's used. If it's a good week, Newport Coast should have enough trade power IF the DVC weeks comes up. If you were told that getting two units in Nov would not be difficult, you were given wrong information. I could see it happening but if it does, it might be only a couple of months out. What unit sizes do you need and could one 2 BR do just as well? I'm sure you know that if you get two units, there will be two exchange fees AND two $95 resort services fees. Don't give up as you can likely get some of the Marriott's on short notice that time of year, but do make alternative arrangements in some capacity that you could change.

Since we are planning on going in Jersey Week, do you think that we should just try to change our plans to the week before or the week after?

Also, someone in another thread mentioned being able to go to the Interval website to see if a place was available to exchange. Does anyone know where that feature is? I'm going over to my mom's this afternoon and would like to use that feature if possible. Thanks!

If you can open up to other weeks, your changes would be much better, esp the week before.

There are two different pieces of info through II. One is the properties potentially available to DVC members. It is simply a listing of the resorts they can try to trade to, not a listing of availability. The other is II's website itself and is for regular II members. They can go online and see what's available. I know I've seen the week you want on line but not as much as some others, and never for a 2 BR. Getting two weeks would be tough even for 2 studios. I'm assuming your looking for two 2 BR units, if so, you should start to think about alternate plans just in case. As I noted previously, getting one of the Marriott's would be easy for that time so I'd wait if it were me and keep trying for DVC.

I have friends that tried to trade into DVC for several years without success. They finally bought at HH & SSR.

I"ve traded in a number of times and see units sitting online for certain times of the year almost year round. DVC is not hard to trade into. It is hard to get certain times of the year and it is hard to get a 2 BR.

BTW, there is a SSR studio for the second full week of Nov sitting online with II right now.

We've gotten OKW through II twice - once it was a 2br in May and last September it was a 1br. I see OKW and SSR on there every once in a while, but it is very hit or miss. Not easy at all.

But possible! So good luck!!

I look basically every day and there has not been a single time I've looked in the last year or so where there was not at least one unit for DVC sitting on line. I've traded in about 6 or 7 times, partly for friends and could have easily snagged 200 units or more. Most units are Jan, early Feb, May (VB), Sept, early Oct and early Dec. Nov & Dec also for VB. I've traded to VWL, BWV, SSR & OKW. BCV was available a lot last year but not as much this year.

We are planning a trip to Disney in September and got a 2 bedroom at thw BWV. The week I traded was Thanksgiving at Breckenridge, Colorado.

The person on the phone told me that it would be difficult to get in and expect to wait a few months. This was last Saturday on the 14th. THe wife and I were trying to decide how long to wait before we made different plans. II got called on Sunday with an offer for a week at Key West. I asked if they had the wilderness or the Boardwalk. The guy checked and now I have a week at the Boardwalk from 9-16 September.

My question is what can I expect from Disney now. Do i get a welcome packet or something?

DVC had a major II deposit for Sept about that time, all the units are now gone except for the ones at VB.
