Not sure where to ask this, or if anyone here even knows the answer... One of my friends just bought a Marriott timeshare. She's interested in the next year or so in planning a trip to Disney, and trading into DVC. I own at DVC, and understand how to book as a DVC owner, but don't know anything about trading into DVC, how far ahead she needs to plan, book, etc.

Anyone know how this works? She's made some basic calls to Marriott, but seems a bit confused. If it helps, they own a 2 bedroom, 2 weeks, and their home is in Las Vegas.

Trading into DVC is too hard, would it make more sense for her and I to "swap" - e.g., I book her trip using my DVC membership, and she books a trip for us using her Marriott membership?

If anyone knows anything about this, it would be great. She's only had the timeshare for a few months, and is still figuring it out.

The process is she has to join II then deposit here time and put in an ongoing request. It's unlikely she'd be able to get a 2 BR, it happens but not enough to count on. Thus if she can do a 1 BR, she should lock off here week at LV and deposit the 1 BR. She can keep or deposit the studio portion to use for something else depending on her plans for it. If she needs a 2 BR, she could try to do request first if she wants to keep her week. Request first in this situation would have to be for a week that occurs before the dates of the week she has to trade.

Alternatives would include depositing as 2 units as above and trying to trade online into DVC or a top Marriott in Orlando. The studio deposit will likely get her a 2 BR at one of the top Marriott's if she keeps looking online. And she might indeed get a 1 BR at DVC for the studio depending on when she wants to go. You are she is welcome to email me privately to explain further if you want or I can give you my phone and you can call.

Dean, don't all the marriotts earn that accomodations certificate from II, too.

so if she can separate and trade both her units - she might get 4 weeks from II.

From reading Dean's post, I think the OP had the right idea, the easiest way is a private swap between the two of them. ;)

Not, not all Marriott's do. One never gets an AC certificate for as studio, after that it's at II's whim.

It depends on what and when. For Magic or premier time or a 2 BR, that's likely the case though it might cost more DVC points.
